View Full Version : calandra stuff - brittle?

Is it me or is calandra stuff more brittle than associated stuff?

At a meeting today I snapped a threaded calandra stub axle (steel), which I only got yesterday! I've been using associated ones for over a year, and have never even bent one! I got the threaded stub axles because I have the calabdra wheels, which are recessed on the front, so its hard to get a clip in and out when changing wheels!

I also broke one of my calandra dish rear wheels. It sheared straight off the axle, and left the bolts in place! After closer inspection of my other wheels, I have noticed small cracks appearing around the bolt holes, and the wheels do seem stiffer than the jaco ones (which I have some of and they have no cracks at all!).

However, I've had no problem with the calandra fronts; these seem pretty tough and durable in comparison to the rears.

Opinions please?! ??? ;D

p.s. It was a big crash, but someone else did exactly the same thing, and carried on afterwards! (he has an associated). I broke a stub axle, a servo saver and a t-bar all on one corner in the same race. I broke the wheel on that same corner in the next race. (it was a flat out chicane - like threading the eye of a needle!)

sounds like a case of animalism! ;D ;D

sometimes, you can just tap something, and it will shear into peices, others you can really hit them hard and they can carry on after... pot luck really.

if you hit something THAT hard enough to break a steel axle... i'd rather break one of those than a chassis! when you hit something, something has to give, the fact that the axle broke is a good thing, because the guy that carried on, could now have a bent axle/distorted A-arm, anything!

chill ;)... and dont hit things so hard! ;D

Yeah, I just had one of those meetings today where nothing seems to go in your favour. I suppose I was trying too hard!

Oh well, I'd rather it happen at a club meeting that at a national or something!

If he did have a bent axle, then it can't have done him any harm, as he went on to win the a final by over a lap!
