Item: Flat Iron 2.2 (M3) with Memory Foams

First Glance

Again, it seems, proline have produced the goods. On first glance these are a good looking tyre. There basic design and chunky tread look quite realistic but preserve a good sidewall size and tread.

First thing i noticed about these tyres compared to the moabs i had before, was just how soft the M3 compound is compared to the M2. The rubber is super sticky yet holds shape very well. These particular tyres came with Prolines new Memory foams included and they are a vast improvement over the old style foams. Memory Foam Action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZfzhN9rCTc)

On the rocks
To put the tyres to the test, i fitted them to a set of RC4WD alloy beadlocks and threw them on my TLT based comp tuber chassis.

Once fitted i have to say they seemed to suit the look of my rig gave it a far more realistic look compared to the Moabs i ran before, and from my testing they seems to perform brilliantly.

On the rocks the flat irons gripped very well and teamed up with the memory foams they where doing better than i had expected. There slight lack of height compared to the other larger 2.2 crawler tyres didn't seem to make such difference.

The large lugs and soft compound where able to grip and hold onto the rocks a lot better than i found with any other tyres i'd tried as they where able to bend around the shape of the rock without folding and sliding off even in wet conditions and after several hours of running they shown very little wear.

Conclusion
Overall i was very impressed with these tyres and will be continuing to run them on my tuber.

If i have anything bad to say about these tyres, it would be that the super soft rubber was difficult to capture in the beadlocks, several times i found the inside of the tyre had pulled away from the rings and ended testing temporarily.

These sound really good, will probably be the first set of option tyres I get for mine. About the soft rubber coming out of the beadlocks, what's a good way to prevent that? When I did touring car racing I would clean the rims and tyre beads with denatured alcohol (meth spirits basically) to get all the moulding agents and oils off, this sounds like it might be a good idea to try (???)

the problem i have read about is the bead is slightly different on the m3 and not the same shape all the way round (a tester for pro line said drop a tiny bit of ca glue on them but defeats the object of beadlocks)

I havent had a problem with 8 shooter rims and M2 Badlands yet (not had a great deal of use yet though), but I have had problems with Junfac wheels and both MOAB and Losi Crawler tyres. I ended up going the ca glue route, but as deadman says that does defeat the point of beadlocks.

I am getting some 3mm Stainless beadlocks made for the 8 shooters which I will test and review.. not only should they look good but they will also add a load of weight. I have some on my Junfac wheels on the TLT at moment and the weight difference is huge.

Sorry about poor pics, these wheels are narrowed Junfac wheels the outer rings have a 12mm hole (just big enough to get my nut driver through, I narrow my Junfac wheels and when done the hex is just past the inside edge of bead so the inner rings have been cut to be a perfect fit around the hex and so provide support, I run 2 rings on inner edge purely to add weight)

The shell is being replaced very shortly (in time for nationals as this one is past repair.)
