Hi People,
Anyone notice that the ball joints on an SD have a fair amount of slop in them?
Has anyone got any names of manfacturers of replacement balls and cups to get rid of the slop, even off another make of car?
Any ideas gratefully recieved!

yup same problem i've got mainly on front left wheel on the lower bellcrank balljoint. i've tried putting a piece of plastic bag in the balljoint which takes up all the slop, but binds it a little. So then i oiled it, which atrracts dirt, and doesn't stay oiled long. My leave them a little longer but there must be a lot of vibration. Although saying that cars is on rails!

i think i know what you mean by slop but if i dont then im probaly telling you to do something totally different
it will help get rid of it as there will not be as much play for the ball joint to move

If it is like the cups on the oneway dif for the MR4TC then put 2 small o rings into the cup before you put the drive shaft in an it take up all the slack and gives you a nice cushion.

if that makes any sence.

I See what you is talking about, and will give it a go, but I think most of the play(Slop)comes from the actual plastic cup onto the metal ball!
Dunno if changing to the Aluminium or Titanuim ones would make any difference?
I think I will have a fiddle at the club on Sat night and see what the other manufacturers ball studs and cups are like!

Hi guys. Greetings from Malta.
Replace them with Schumacher balls and ball grippas. They are the best I have found so far.

Joe from sunny Malta.
