Im thinking of replacing my SST2000 with an Evo2 but am unsure as to the durability.My SST has been hit from all angles and has hit many walls track supports etc and in a year of competetive racing has only ever bent a rear driveshaft.I usually race on a polished indoor surface on a shortish track.
Any opinions would be most welcomed as I have also been offered a nearly new TC3 factory and dont want to make the wrong choice for my new car.
I currently run a Mazba 6 body which I have found remarkable in the aid of grip and handling.

I have run an evo2 for about 2 months now, i had my first breakage last week when i slowed down to avoid a spinning car and another xray hit me. It bent the rear left pivot pin only!
I've never run a tc3 so i can't compare it to my xray but the xray is substantially stronger than the mr4tc and the mission (only stronger than the mission because of a few weak spots on the car ie rear turnbuckle mount for toe in).
You shouldn't have to worry about the xray breaking due to a faulty reciever i have crash tested the car thouroughly! >:(

I have just sold my FT TC3. I had my Xray now for a year but kept the TC3 as back up. Never needed it, the Xray was always spot on.
The only time I went for the TC3 was for a wet weather race, and only because I had an undertray for it.
My Radio gear is now all waterproof so now I use the xray all the time.

I think that you should get the T1R as this one allows more flex and so, more grip.
I also run on a polished floor and i have found the T1R to excellent right out the box, the only hop-up i recomend is the ultra felxible top deck, again for more flex = more grip, and for polished floor you need as much grip as you can get.
As for breakages i haven't broken it yet, but i have only had it for a month.

For low-grip, yes you want the car flexible. However, you try running that on carpet... :o

The Evo two is almost bomb proof (i haven't Tried blowing it up but if you watch me drive it’s the only thing I haven’t done yet :P)
all I would recommend is a couple of spear C-hubs, other than that you should have no problems

Dan - Can you please take note of rule 5b and reduce your signature to one line only.
Just to back up what has been said, the x-ray is a VERY strong car, haven't broken anything for a very long time, and has some pretty large crashes before.
Cheers

The Pivot ball suspension is definitely stronger than the C-Hub, if you are concerned about durability I would build the Evo2 as pivot ball. If you wish to use the more popular C-hub suspension, I would suggest investing in the alloy C-hub carriers for the front, as this seems to be the only weak point on an otherwise very strong car.
All the new Evo2 cars should be the Freedom Of choice type, which of course come supplied with both suspension types.

I've got a new strengthening mod for the front c-hubs. It has been thoroughly crash tested today (anyone at MK will know how well given today's track...) and certainly seems to make the hubs more durable. It also appears to sharpen the turn in a little but removing all the flex from the front suspension.

Hi fellas
I've not long swopped my Mission for an Xray evo 2 and i have to say the car is one sorted piece of kit, the quality is unmatched by any other company, only had chance to run the car twice and so far i'm very impressed with the chassis, using a photoform Vectra bodyshell.
there are only three Xray's at my local club, but there are a few TC3's and they still rule the night, but they are getting old now and i've heard rumors of a TC4 if this is reliable?
cheers

are these strengthening avilable though xray or are these something that you thought up?
Elvis, i'm the ONLY one running an xray at my local club and i'm beating them all, see my website link to have a look!

University dave, like the mod, but have a couple of questions:-
1) Have you tried the original link below your new link (currently it is on top)? does it improve the steering?
2) The new link mounting position on the front bulkhead, is attached by a rounded head hex nut, but originally the top deck was screwed in with a countersunk hex nut, is the chassis now supceptable to tweaking? as the front screws for the top deck are not seated as intended?
Other than that a interesting mod!!!

Chris, I actually saw the idea mentioned on a US forum, but I actually wanted to try and cut out the slop in the front suspension rather than strengthen it up. Having gone through a few c-hubs at Bisley I thought it worth a try, but it does seem to sharpen the handling up a little (I did try it back to back with the kit setup in practice on Sunday).
Rob;
1). I did try the links the other way round, problem was that I've used 5mm ball ends on the extra link so this limits the suspension travel that way round. I've got some 5.8mm ends but not the balls, as soon as I get some of those I will be seeing if it makes any difference.
2). I've used 2 very small plastic spacers (they came with the Raycer but I've no idea where they actually go...) under the link. These fill the countersunk recess and keep the chassis in line. I would have thought that a pair of small o-rings would also do the same job.
All the parts I've used are Xray ones;
302611 35mm turnbuckle
302662 5mm ball joint
307454 5mm pivot ball
You'll also need;
2 x 18mm M3 screws
2 x 15mm M3 screws
2 x small o-rings/spacers

Very interesting Mod tom. It will cetainly help strengthen and stiffen the front end of the car up which can not be a bad thing.

One problem though with the alu Chub cariers is that instead of breaking in a large impact, they will get bent or buckled without you knowing and so, affect the handling of the car. I find it better to break a chub rather than have a buckled one, that will affect my performance. Only way to curb the problem is to try and not crash. Easier said than done for some I know.
John bull of malta has a similar mod on a TC3 and a yokomo at snetterton BRCA to the one university dave made.
