Why not let others know what gearing you are using for tracks on the Nat Callender (BTCC,BRCA,TORC STCC etc) this will help others and save some guess work.
To start it off Luke is using 33x69 at Bedworth (may change with the new track).

The gearing we run at Barham (full A1 National circuit) with Novak SS in a TC3 is 30:63. That is on unlimited setting.
I am running 32/70 in my Yokomo SD and it runs great ;D.
I read in racer a few months ago that Graham Creasey ran a Novak SS 5800 in a TC3 at the reedy race at Halifax on an overall ratio of 5.14, so my ratio on 32/70 comes out at (70/32 * 2.352) = 5.145 :D
I tried it on my home track (www.sdrcc.co.uk) which is one of the largest outdoor tracks in the UK and it ran great! Lap after lap.....the speedo was hot after the run but it didn't effect the performance at all and it was nowhere near the heat that my brushed motors get to.
Hope this helps! ;)
I ran 6.2 at Aldershot... not much to compare with except quicker then 19T driven by racer who have always beaten me... 8)

I’m using the Novak Brushless system in my XXX-4 (modified) have tried a few different gearings!
At the moment I have 92/48 with 22 pinion, it seems to work fine. Of course different gearing for different tracks, was wondering what other people were using within the XXX-4 and using the Brushless.

That gearing works out @ 8.78:1 using standard diff pulleys
Novak say,
{You will want the final drive ratio in the vehicle
to be about 7.3:1 and not less than 6.5:1}
If you had a modified brush-type motor in your
vehicle before switching to the Super Sport system,
and you do not change the gearing, you will be
under-geared and the vehicle will appear slow!
Have you used it on these ratios ?

glenn,i think you will find that those quoted ratios are for tourers not buggys,i seem to recall in the b3 running it around 7.8-8.2

OK Dave.
I'll go for a 22 pinion rather than the 25 which gives 7.56:1

i think its a case of trial and error glenn and depends on what type of surface too..

Spoke to club member last night who runs one in a Cat 3 and he has his on 9.2:1 for TRCC indoor. So I'll go to 8.99:1 with XXX-4 for the slippy floor at Nissan today which is a little bit bigger track.

Ended up on 9.95:1 (ie 90/19 x 2.1)
Tried 20 & 21 tooth pinions but motor and esc were red hot. On a 19 pinion motor cooled down but esc still red hot.
Need to go down to 18 pinion maybe ?

Hi Glenn
Was unable to reply because I could not log in! But what I was going to say has been said!
I'm still using the same 'set up' with spur and pin... not had any running hot problems as yet! Should chuck some oil on the bearing I guess but I must be lucky. Let me know if you find the perfect gearing.
David.
ps must say I think that brushless is 110% better than messing around with cleaning motors, new brushes and all that gack! Who needs that muck! :)

Hi Bathy,
1. Should chuck some oil on the bearing
2. must say I think that brushless is 110% better than messing around with cleaning motors, new brushes and all that gack! Who needs that muck!
1. Will need to do the same after running the motor so hot.
2. Must agree. :D
Was nice just putting cells in car and racing without the chew of
skimming and brushing.
What type of track/surface are you running on to run the gearing your on and which mode is your esc set to ? Have mine set to 4 on the esc
Wonder if I'll get it passed scrutineering @ 12th Nationals next season :D

Hi Glenn
I was looking through some of the old posts and found this one that I seem to have missed and also never replied to your questions! Sorry about that.
Seems the brushless part of this forum is not so popular these days, which is a shame as I still think brushless is the future. If only Novak would sponsor a few brushless events I think this would get the ball rolling for race events. Maybe it’s quiet here because everyone is happy with their set ups and having fun with no problems???
In reply to your post Glenn (back in May 2004) I don’t run on any tracks because I found it difficult to find any near me, turns out Frome and Chippenham are my nearest clubs and I shall endeavour to make it to one or both once transport is sorted out.
I’ve tried a few different ‘setups’ with gearing in the XXX-4 currently 94spur with 22pin, I was also running a 25pinion recently and this seemed fine but it is winter which helps keep temperature down. My Novak system is also set on the 4th option, that’s the no limit with reverse I believe?
Have you managed to enter any races with the Novak system? I’m hoping that small clubs on ‘fun’ nights would allow Brushless systems; I don’t know how they compare with the latest modified brushed motors. I would be surprised if brushless was much slower because my experience of Brushless seems extremely fast, but then it’s been a good few years since I used brushed motors.
Since this post started I also have a XXX-S which also runs really well with the Novak set up, not so sure on how I should be gearing it but all I know is it runs well. I do prefer my off road cars to on road but its nice to have both depending on my mood.
