During the summer of 2004, CARS, High Wycombe and MKRCTC will be hosting a triple crown series.

Dates etc are still being sorted out to ensure we don't clash with any major TC events, and the rules are being finalised.

In order to introduce a bit of fun into the event, we are looking at some interesting options regarding race formats.

Watch this space for updates as we sort out the details and an entry form will be available shortly.

Regards,

Dave

Dave - how about...

Team Race - run a Le Mans Triple Crown requiring teams of (say) five with a race duration of 3 hours. Pit stops will be to change bugs over.

Reedy Race format - each driver races all the other drivers with points for position. Format and race-control software is available.

Two qualifiers, three finals - but the qualifier is on fastest lap!

Peter,

I like it ;D I think it will be a case of putting all the ideas together and seeing what's going to work!

How would you "seed" teams?

I like the reedy race format idea.

What about having points for qualifying and finals. The qualifying points could be scored like the reedy race (ie points for position, with heats shuffled each round). Then, finals could be sorted by FTQ, and points awarded as normal (eg 50 for A final 1st, down to 1 pt for 50th place.)

I like the idea of the Reedy Race format.

Dunno about teams, suppose you could do teams with 2X F1s, 2X F2s and 2X F3s if enough entered.

What's wrong with normal racing though, everyone enjoys that! ;)

Guys,

The teams aren't seeded. It encourages people to travel from race to race as a team, rather than just entering a couple of rounds. There is nothing to stop an Associated team of Ash, Hale, Clark and Spencer blitzing it, but then that is part of the fun! It also gives people loads more driving time to practice their driving skills.

I've always found that teams pace themsleves against one close to their ability, and they love racing each other. It's different, and it's fun - and it is closer to the format of the cars we use than the format we usually use. It also requires a lot less organisation - start the clock and off you go!!

The Reedy Race format works well and seems to have some support. You score points in each race on a position basis - each race is a final!!

Mmm, I'd tend to agree with you there liam. Everyone likes the normal race format, as they're used to it. I wouldn't mind something a bit different though.

The problem with running it as a team event is what happens in the event that only, say, 2 out of the 5 people on a team can make the meeting. The teams would need to be re-shuffled, and that would mess up the points.

I think a team aspect would be good though. You could take the scores from the top five drivers from each club at each meeting, and add them up. That way you could have both induvidual and team racing (like in the MK winter series). Then one club would be the overall team champions, and another driver would be the "solo" champion.

We run a kind of reedy format at the 1/12th oval saloon nationals. You get 4 heats, with your best 3 scores taken. You get 10 for a win, 9 for second, 8, 7, etc... There is 1 extra point for FTQ. Then the finals are sorted by FTQ. The winner of the a gets 70pts, 2nd gets 69, 68 etc... So the max score is 101pts

Or something like that! ???

The format works well because you have to get consistenly good results to get points in the heats, but it also rewards fast drivers, as the finals are sorted by FTQ.

If anyone has any queries about the size of the high wycombe track, then check out this video to get an idea of the size. Bear in mind a different layout will be run for the triple crown series.

We also have our own pit tables and power points, as its a permanent venue.

The cars being raced are mardaves (the red one is me! ;D ), but they're about the same size as a 1/12th car.

Unfortunately CARS are unable to secure the hall for a reasonable price, so have withdrawn from the series.

As a result, HWMSC & MKRCTC are holding 2 rounds each of a series to be called "Double Bubble" to be held on Saturday afternoons (see Mark B, we do listen ;D) in May thru August.

We are in the process of finalising dates and details and as soon as we have them I will post them.

Hopefully this will be enough to keep our hands in for next season, as well as try out all the new cars about to hit the market!
