Hi Johnathan.

No, there are no crawling clubs in the UK, the only organised meeting is the UKRCRC nationals, which last year was near Matlock in Derbyshire and currently it's looking like this years venue won't be too far away from there. Most crawling is done by getting together with anyone local to you and heading off looking for something to crawl over.:D

I'm presuming you are buying one of the crawler kits as opposed to putting your own together and a reasonable set of tyres will be included in whichever crawler you've bought. If it's a bought truck then it will be a 2.2" class truck. As for alternatives Proline Moabs are used almost universally. As for wheels there are plenty of nice alternatives at rc4wd if you have a huge budget, the new Junfac beadlocks are popular as they are pretty cheap compared with the US offerings.

For motors the most common is a 55 turn lathe motor. Your choice used to be limited to just Integy, and they can supply a motor all the way up to 85 turns if you want a really slow truck. Novak and Reedy are a couple of big names who have recently produced 55 turn motors themselves.

The servo of choice is the Hitec 645MG, plenty of torque and the metal gear train. A cheap alternative that's popular is the Towerpro MG995, amazing how they can make them for the price but low quality, they have problems with centring but it isn't noticed in a crawler. Whatever servo you use make sure you get a metal geared one(so the gears don't break) and don't use a servo saver so the wheels will turn when you want them to.

Hi,

About the steering, I would go with 2 wheel steering at first because it is cheaper. Unless of course you already have a 3ch radio set! Some radios will need modification to have proportional steering using the 3rd channel.
You could also just use a 'Y' lead and servo reverser to have non independant 4 wheel steering.

For a speedo, as long as it has fwd and rev you should be fine to start with. You dont need any special speedo although they are available ie. rooster, mamba etc. I have used LRP AI runner and that costs about £30.00
