I know this is maybe a motor thread but I wanted t get the views of the 1/12th racers.
Has anyone run a single wind motor in a 1/12th car against a double of the same wind and how did it feel? (ie 10 double vs 10 single)
I'm looking to try a 10 single for Wickham but wanted to gauge if this was a good ide.

Paul,
With your ability behind the sticks I can't understand why you ask the question... ::)

Dave,
Any little advantage I can get to beat Andy G the better.
Another good result and it will all be down to the Chesterfield grand prix result.
However, it's me being stingy as I've not bought the motor yet so I'm not 100% sure it's the right thing to do.
I ran the new Reedy Platinium quad magnet 10 double motor in the finals on Sunday and it seemed to pull better mid range, although perhaps not the out and out top end of the Ti.
Hopefully a platinium 10 single would be quick also

Wickham - small track, lots of laps, can't wait

I love twisty tracks; I'll be well at home at wickham then! It even has a similar name to my local club (high wycombe!) ;D
I'm going to try and get there for one of the days. I rely on others giving me lifts though, so if I can't get one I'll try sweet talking my dad! ;)

Paul,
I have run Ti 12x1 and 12x2 back to back and always end up going back to 12x1 because it picks up better.
Not got enought tallent or cougage to try 10s yet though.

Paul, I have used a 12 x 1 and 12 x 2 and would say the reverse of Mark's experience!! The 12 x 1 was Trininty, and the 12 x 2 Reedy - both about three years old!
I don't think there is a simple answer to your question. I always end up with a double wind whatever the make, simply because I can gear it down and have acceleration on a tight track, or gear it up and run part throttle on big tracks. Either way, they just pull better throughout the range IME.
All that must, of course, be taken with the following statement - you win Nationals, I make the C Final!! ;D

Paul, haven't run a PT yet >:( but i am a little surprised that you say the one that you ran didn't have the top end of the Ti. Would have thought that the combination of Quad mags and the older fury arm (like i say don't have any, based on web info) should have given more RPM. I think they were designed with 4 cell in mind.
Not sure about a single wind. Would have thought that it would give more "rip" than the double.
I might be trying to get KRY's to work at wickham as soon that is all i will have. Tried one in practice on Sunday at Teeside and only made 7.10 :- and i couldn't concentrate well enough to actually push the car!!

Matt,
the main reason the Ti had more top end was I could pull 2-3mm higher ratio than the Pt. The Pt did have better mid range power and you don't get something for nothing.

I have run a 12x1 Krypton versus the 12x2 and always went back to the 12x2. It just seemed smoother and I think it also had a little more top end than the single. However, I've just swapped to a 12x2 Peak Vantage and that is MILES better! It this one legal tho?
