Hi Rob... glad to hear about your new purchase :) Havent personally tried to fit Lipo myself, but the guys in the states have, and they seem to have made it fit! Only thing is, you will need to add a fair amount of weight to balance the chassis left to right! Hope some other PHI owners can shed some light on this subject!

Mike Smith who sells these packs, normally brings a pack along on Friday nights for us to try. I'll try it for size for you;)
I have a feeling the standard size maybe too high to fit under the top deck as they are the same height as a sub-C cell - but obviously the LiPo pack doesn't sit into the slots, so sits high by the chassis thickness. Which is why a more slender version is being developed/tested.

The answer is no i'm afraid:(
Tried Mike's test pack which contains two LiPo cells & is slightly slimmer than the currently avaliable single cell packs - and even this one was just a bit too high (by about 1mm)
Maybe with a bit of localised filing it would go in - but I wouldn't recommend this for fear of peircing or weakening the case.

I can, now confirm that the production version of the new TrakPower TP3200 (http://www.modeltech.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=747) pack fits the Phi prefectly. Just tried one in Chis' car, with Dan looking on, and mounted with the power points to the rear, you couldn't ask for a better fit.

Sadly already got the 4900 however its ok with tape and using the extra weights to balance the car - however when you haven't raced for 12yrs the weight balance of the car is the last thing on my mind:eek:

Looks like you beat me to it Mike:)
The pack I tried was a pre-production pack and it would appear the combination of its thicker heatshrink & slightly raised connection tubes mean't it wouldn't quite go in.
The new production pack we tried in Mike's son's Phi this lunchtime fitted like a glove - almost mm perfect! Although I would suggest that it would be advisable to fit some very thin foam tape to the underside of the battery strap to aid its grip on the pack.
Also by fitting the pack with the connections to the rear of the car you can keep the wires from the speedo short & neat;)

I know this is a completely different subject but thought i would ask anyway as i have a dilemma. This is mostly for anyone using the LRP Sphere TC brushless speedo. Thinking of shortening the motor wires. What i am wondering though is will have any effect on performance for the worse?

Hi Matt, it will make no differance at all. It will just make your car look neater. Hope that helps answer a question.
