Does anyone know if this motor comes with a sintered rotor ?. I've had a look on the Schumacher and SP sites but can't seem to find any info on the rotor

also, if anyone has run one - how do they compare to a novak 10.5 from a gearing point of view ?

thanks

A couple of racers at Kellers club were running them last Sunday and there was nothing much in it performance wise. I think the gearing for our track was something like 6.3 Novak ss pro and 5.7 for the Speed Passion ultra 10.5 Im not absolutly sure but I beleve the SP rotor is sintered.

I have a couple now, and based on the feel I'm certain they are sintered. And based on gearing at 6 or lower, they must be.

I will be running both at the Lowestoft series round on Sunday. The Touring class is competitive there with a mix of brushed 19-turn and Novak SS 10.5 runners. My gearing will start around 6.0-6.2 and work from there. This meeting will give me a good comparison of pace, so ask me again next week ;)

The other will get a run in my 1/12th car, starting the gearing at 55mmpr for that. If it's close to the pace of the SP 9.5 I've run for a while, I'm going to be very impressed.

i ran the speed passion 10.5 on sunday at our local kellers car club.
the rotor is a 12.5 mm sintered, not bonded it also has fixed timming.
i geared the motor on 5.8 to 1 which is 2 pinions higher then people running novaks ss pro. the motor performed well against the more expensive full blown brushless types, and was good enough to win the A final.

The gearing should be the other way around, the Novak SS should have more power so can be geared higher than the SP (usually a couple of teeth less).

The original SP10.5 (40.00) one was a bonded rotor, the "new" (45.00) ones are sintered.

A sintered rotor BL motor for change out of fifty quid...

It always could, but how competitive against BR 19t and how reliable?......

It always could

Not possible according to some...

but how competitive against BR 19t

Can't see them lacking if the 9.5 is anything to go by

and how reliable?......

Thought the point of sintered was that it doesn't have to work so hard for the performance and enhanced reliability...

The 'major player' in this sector may just wait to see outcome of ROAR's writing of the the rules pertaining to 'spec' BL motors before deciding the direction they take in this area of the market...

Well, as a result of a text from a good mate who encouraged me to race last night one of my SP 10.5 Ultras popped its cherry last night :p

The Norwich 1/12th track is relatively small, so started gearing about 50mmpr. Very impressed first heat out, and second lap in assumed I'd be slower than the faster motors at the end of the stright. I wasn't so cue braking and avoiding action :o

Motor was pretty cold, and lots and lots left in the cells. Geared up to 52mmpr for the second heat. Much better and really on the pace. Then got off the carpet...no edge barriers...straight to the scene of the accident.

A quick t-bar repair (very quick) and led the third heat for a dozen laps. When a cell went off :'(

Impressed the heck out of me and everyone watching. Would have considered an even taller gearing for the last race, and some more drag braking on the speedo (I run none). But needed to pick Fran up from the airport...

So SP 10.5s in both cars for Lowestoft on Sunday. Bring it on :p

Mark, compared to 19T BR at Nationals, how would you compare performance over a lap, and eight minutes - faster, slower, different...? Like to know... Thanks.

The sp 9.5 bl motors are bonded

They were some damm strong bonded rotors in the ones i saw then............

To be honest, i'm not sure how easy it is to actually be "sure" what is in them. I think to really be sure, you actually need to destroy them.

For now I'm running the LRP Sphere 2007, which is wired in a well known to me for set up options. I have a Speed Passion GT speedo to try at some point, with some new set up features to try.

The SP GT will fit under a 1/12th shell, even with the heatsink :D

PDW...I'll let you know after the meeting tomorrow on a National sized track

Cheers,
Mark

Did you try your Speed Passion GT speedo?

If so how did it go?

Right...finally had time to check the ratios I ended up on

A mad busy meeting running both cars. So didn't really get time to optimise set up, gearing or try new stuff like the Speed Passion GT speedo :'(

Ideally I'd race tomorrow night to test it out before the Seniors. But the lure of a local gig has proved too strong. I do love rock after all ;)

Back on the alien space ship...SP 10.5 took some work to get the gearing right in my 1/12th car. Handling only really got sorted in the finals, and running 55-56mmpr on a decent sized carpet was pretty rapid. My 9.5 was quicker, but still enough to shame some 5.5 and 4.5 runners for pace. LOL

PDW - at the moment I'd say a touch slower than 19-turn. Especially at the end of a long straight. With a few more meetings to test gearing and speedo settings, I reckon that'll improve.

The 10.5 in my Touring car was quick enough to qualify 2nd and both finals wins. A touch slower than TQ set up a Novak 10.5 SS...but not that much in it. Gearing was around 5.8-5.9, runing Trakpower LiPos.

Both ran without a hitch all meeting :D

Cheers, Mark
