Hi all
Just been looking at the Protoform site, and here is their latest wedge...
http://www.pro-lineracing.com/protoform/onroad/1609/1609.jpg
It says on the site it meets BRCA regulations, what's it supposed to resemble though... certainly doesn't look like the real Bentley!

Hi
Nope sorry it doesn't, it says
Meets BRCA, EFRA, ROAR specifications which is significantly different (e.g. size etc)
This bodyshell has not been submitted for Homologation testing it is therefore currently not legal for BRCA 1/12 Nationals
I have no opinion on its legality until it's checked by the 1/12 committee.

Whoops! My mistake :P :-[
It looks nice, but bears very little resemblance to an actual Bentley Le Mans car. Certainly looks pretty cool with the dished wheels mind.

I have those wheels. I think they are slightly heavier than the standard jaco wheels for the associated. I have also found the plastic to be a little brittle for the rears, as I broke a wheel when I hit the barrier at a meeting. The fronts are strong though. They look pukka though!
As for the shell, I think its just another parma speed 8, although the cockpit and front of the car do look more like the real thing than the parma does!

It certainly carries on the recent trend of an exagerated rear end and very very low cockpit section.
I like it but we will have to wait and see on it's legality

Paul,
I don't think we have to wait for the BRCA to say if it is legal. I know it does not look like a full size car that a full size person could get in and drive!
The cockpit is way too low....

I have to agree with you mark.
the cockpit is too small if it is a scale representation of the real thing. The side profile is nowhere near being like the real thing either. However, it does have the V shaped bonnet, and slightly raised air ducts infont of the cockpit (although these have been exaggerated by the paint scheme!). The wheelarches are too square as well. The only thing that it has in its favour are the vents on top of the front wheelarches!
The current protoform bentley is a very good representation of the real thing in my opinion (except the scoop at the back of course!)

I was trying to politically correct, however I agree it is nowhere near as good a representation as the origibnal version of the shell.

I know this is a bit off topic, but are there two versions of the current protoform benley?
I have had two different types of shell (both reg. weight), one had a lump on the back above the sway/pivot bit on the rear of the associated, the other did not. The one with the lump also had beaded strips running down by the front lights, wheras the "lumpless" one didn't! I am currently running a "lumpy" shell (lighweight); was the "lumpless" one the very original shape or something?

Well spotted that man.
Yes, the lumpy one is the new one.
I have yet to try it but will be running one at Wickham

Really?! The first shell I ever bought for my 1/12th was a lumpy one (that was just over a year ago), then I had a non-lumpy one, and I've had two lumpy ones since then!
New Bentley??
BLOOMING AWFUL.
Should not be allowed anywhere near a racetrack!!!

Mark,
Obviously some old stock somewhere in the system.
Did you find any handling differences?

No not really, although my local club has a very twisty, short track so its difficult to guage handling differences, and I don't race at MK often enough to notice any significant changes (they don't allow practice either!). The car seems noticeably quicker with a lightweight shell though (a bit obvious I know!). :)
