I think I am supposed to call it a 'rig' but anyway ...

I decided a good while ago that I fancied a try of this so I ordered a standard Axial AX10 and a Novak Goat Crawler BL system.

I decided pretty early on that stock wasn't for me so decided to go for an aftermarket chassis. I decided on the oddly named 'Bender SW3'

Here are some promo pics of one with some Axial bits on ...

Wasn't the idea of the AX10 that you didn't have to buy the parts from various places to put your own rig together?:D

That's true and I still stand by that statement (I can see I need to be more careful when I say things here :D)

BUT ...

Then I realised how much fun I was going to be missing out on. I have actually ordered quite a lot of goodies so should end up with a trick truck/crawler/rig.

I know it would still cost me a lot less at the end of the year ( I think anyway) than my racing does.

I was quite torn in regards to how to go with a few items. I couldn't decide on a chassis and actually ended up ordering 2. I also could not decide if I wanted to stay simple or got for dig (more on this in a minute) - in the end I decided on dig and that meant a new radio. I have always used sticks so choosing radios isn't always based on what I thought was best but what was available in sticks.

Knwoing I needed at least 3 channels it was the perfect excuse to get the Nomadio I had wanted for ages :D - this thing is amazing, I'm genuinely stunned by what it can do I am hoping this will be a good and easy way for me to learn how to use a wheel radio.

I really don't have time to explain everything it does so if you want to know more just click here (http://www.modeltech.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=114&products_id=731)

When I was trying to decide between various chassis there were 2 that kept dropping up and I just couldn't decide - the Reign and the SW3. I ordered an SW3 (still waiting for it) and then Reign decided to do a black anodised version of their chassis and that made me decide to get both. Now I have seen motormad's one (http://www.rcracechat.com/vb/showthread.php?t=38997) I might build this version first.

Very flash Rob! Will look great with some Losi Rock claws fitted. What's the offset on those?

Rob Fitzgerald

Hi Joe

These are new ones that have the same offset as the std AX10 wheels but are only 1" wide (25.4mm for the youngsters).

I couldn't resist them

Rob Fitzgerald

They will be having Rock Claws on them (ordered) and red Krawlies in the front and the std Losi foams in the rears for starters.

I also decided to go for a dig setup and after much thought decided to go with a R2D - I am hoping that the TCS dig servo mount will fit in - we shall see.

The gearbox is here am waiting for the servo plate.

After doing some reading I decided that a 4 link setup sounded better (I could of course be wrong) so I ordered a front and rear mount from TCS.

The hot tip is to ditch the stick pack and get some smaller cells low down on the front axle. I went for some Elite 1500s but will swap these out for EP's when I get a chance. (NOT the IB's shown in the product photo)

These will be mounted on some funky TCS axle mounts.

You won't go far wrong with these Rob. With properly dialed suspension it will help eliminate the torque twist some.

Just looking back at those pictures I wonder if subconciously I am thinking that ordering a chassis with less material in it makes it more likely to arrive ?

Maybe you should be having a word with Twinset, he designs and builds crawler chassis here in the UK.

Here's his latest creation - JAWS

It's a "creative" version of his Ugly chassis.

I am now completely fed up with this whole chassis situation

I ordered a SW3 - never arrived here
I ordered a reign - never arrived here
I ordered a Blackjack - arrived in the UK but got lost on the way here
I ordered a GC1 - not even been sent yet

I'm pretty miffed I can tell you

I think I am going to build it up ino the stock chassis so at least I can play with the damn thing.

( I did order a scale chassis from the States (that did arrive) but that's for another project altogether)

Hiya Guys,

New to this forum so go easy on me.

Has anyone run the blackjack yet?
I hear they are quite capable but a little harder to set up than other chassis.

Also any feedback on the R2D?

Matt

i run a r2d and sems to be ok the stock 8 tooth pinion makes the gearing way to low (im running a 13t now)as for the dig its self you just need to get the servo linkage straight then it works

Hi Nik

Thanks for posting the pictures - I feel so much better knowing that you got yours ok :D

Today I started drilling holes in my std Axial chassis to get a longer top link length as is commonly done. Been fiddling with link lengths and spacers but the ally spacers I ordered AGES ago have not turned up yet - don't think they have even been sent

hi rob

who have you been buying your bits from ive used rc4wd,tcs,rcp and they all have shipped very quick(rc4wd is the best as they take about 6days)

Rob Fitzgerald

As someone quite rightly pointed out that If I run the top links in my new holes then my Novak motor won't fit

As I never belive anything I tried for myself but they were right

I tried using some slightly narrower traxxas balls with a button head from the inside and a nyloc on the outside and with the std 14t pinion there was a feeler gauge clearance and I wasn't keen

I decided to use a threaded ball from an Xray and this does the job perfectly :D
