I thinking of running my TL01 at my local club. But It is standard at the moment and i know it has no chance. What do i need to do to it and how much will it all cost to make it competitive?

add bearings to it. that makes a big difference in runtime and it will let your turning components move freely to cool the motor and not melt your insides. i have done that. get a esc(electronic speed control) and a hotter stock motor. there is nothing wrong with the silver can motor but something like a fantom or a p2k2 will help out. what shell r u racing with? i ahve tried alot of shells and the dodge stratus is a good beginner shell. get tires that grip on carpet if indoors and slicks outdoors.
and get the speed tuned gear set and some larger pinions. possibly event the lighter centre drive shaft. you want to get some foam tyres weather racing indoor our outdoor. just ask your lhs what foams theyd recomend.

I invested in some TA03 Alu oil filled shocks as the ones in the kit are only good for round the car park.
:)
A Speed Tuned Gear Set would be ideal as well as Carbon Hollow Gear Shafts that replace the heavier aluminium ones. A Carbon Propeller Shaft is great as well as its lighter and more stronger so its faster.
Bearings are a must with a Modified motor and a Speed Controller to compensate the increased torque.
Thats the best items for increased speed! I recommend a Reedy Pulse R 10T Double - my TL01 reached speeds of 45-50mph!!!
These Hop Ups should cost altogether (depending on items of Speed Controller and Motor) bout £150-200

If it is going to cost me 150 to 200 would i be better getting either a Schumacher Mission or a Tc3?

Which ever car you buy, or upgrade you will need an electronic Speedo. This will cost the same whatever.

I gave up with the TL01 idea. I instead bought a TA04 with Lightweight chassis, Anti roll bars and Dodge Stratus shell for £50. Im running a esc, M'Tronics 15 Turn Double motor and Sanyo 3300mah batteries. Whats the next upgrade for it?

stop trying to hop up your car and get out there and race. this is the best hop up you can buy. you should have kept the tl01 idea alive. it is better to start with a car that won't break. that way, you can concentrate on your skills instead of your pocket book.

I have fallen in love with LRP esc's. Get you a new runner. They can do motors down to 17 turn. Mtronics is good too. I had the version that went to 15 turns until I blew it up. It was all my fault on that one opps. I miss that esc. Go to your local races and see if anyone is selling their old stuff cheap.

Hi Have a similar dilema Darrel,
I've spend a few quid on my TL01 to race it at my local club, in all I'd say I've spent around £100 in hop ups. that excludes the ESC and Motor because you can put these on any other car.
The point is at £100 you can get a race ready Scumacher S1 or Yokomo Mr4 TC Chassis all you have to do is add a £20 shell, motor ESC and radio gear and you can give everyone a run for their money.
You decide,.......... But I know what I think I'm gonna do soon!!!

I have the same feelings about having a TL01, it's a nice strong chassis but once you start hopping it up it costs a small fortune when you could just go out and get a ready made TC3 or something from ebay.
I would think Tamiya make more money selling 'hop ups' than full kits.
But then again tuning your car up as you go is all part of the fun of learning how the car works before you move on to bigger and better things.
Anyone wanna buy a hopped up TL01? lol

True
I have a tl-01 and before 4 weeks ago i had everything standard in it.At the moment I have only changed the standard motor to a hellfire rs24 stock and put in race bearings-my lap count has gone up astonishingly high!!!!!
What else can i upgrade as I am not all happy with these lightweight chassis as i think they're a waist of time and money(sorry-lol)-call me old fashioned ;D .

it goes on the driver... personly i think the tl-01 are 1 of the worst cars 2 buy
1. there slow
2. Not competative
3. Steering can never be straight
i am not a big fan with the tamiya ta-04 it might have been my set up i dunno it was a night mare always breaking sommet but my life changed when i bought the tamiya tb evo 1 that is a very hard car 2 break , its fast in all classes , very cheap now on ebay or ur local club( i bought mine 2nd hand for £120 )its the ideal car for begineers or local club members.

I have to agree, the TL is just too much money to Hop up to a good standard, yet you get alot better car already 'tuned' for very little money'.
While my TB evo is no longer cutting edge,it was very cheap(£75,unrun) and still comes with loads of hopups as standard.

If i put a Yokomo 23T motor in my TL-01 will i need to change the gears to speed tuned gears or will my standard ones be ok for the moment. Im only ask this because the guy who i drive with had to change the gears on his buggy when he changed the motor although this was quite a while ago!!

You don't have to change the gears as long as you ensure your standard gears are well greased but for the £5 or so to aquire the speed tuned set it will help increase the overall speed of the car also changing the pinion gear from the standard 19 tooth to a 21 or 23 these will increase the top end speed BUT will cut down the acceleration coming out of the corner, but only a little
hope this helps :)

If u put the tl01 speed tuned gears in and a 21 or 23 tooth pinion the car will over geared if you were to run any motor over a 17t wind.
I tryed the speed tuned gears with a 13t motor and 21 pinion and dumped on 3300 that in my trf414m will run 6mins on a 6turn motor

Quite simply, the TL01 is not a good car. Its bulletproof, and fun for bashing, but thats about it.
Get a TT01. A little bit more than the TL01, but infinitely better design.

I agree with Genem the tl01 is only made to be a fun car!

i have a TL-01 exactly for that = fun, just play with it outside my house and at car parks etc.
not into proper racing and tracks etc.
its a tl-01 with a kyosho 17x2T motor, no limit ESC and i have a new battery (not sure on spec)
runs very well, loads of fun, get a fair amount of run time.
