Hi there

I've just fitted a spankingly shiny new Mr Ninja B01A .21 to my lightning stadium and I'm now trying to run it in but it appears to be doing some strange things (well I assume they're strange as I've only ever used RTR spec engines i.e. little or no pinch)!!

It is fitted with a Jammin' JP3 pipe, Reckward Speed 3 clutch, K Factory air filter, Ninja Turbo plug and is running on O'Donnell 25%.

It fired up fairly quickly and ran through the 1st tank without too much grief, it kept cutting out very now and then but I asume that is fairly normal as it would fire back up straight away, I then let it cool down with the piston at BDC.

The engine fired up straight away on the second tank and all appeared to be ok for about 5 minutes, after which the engine would intermittently rev to what appears to be warp factor 12 even though the throttle was fully shut, the only way I could cut the engine was to pinch the fuel line or block the exhaust after which the engine would fire back up straight away. The idle also seems to be a bit erratic although I assume thats because it is still tight.

The high speed needle is out quite a long way (about 4 Turns), I haven't touched the low speed needle yet.

Also when I try to blip the throttle with the transmitter the engine revs to a very high RPM but will not return to idle!!

The engine temperatures also seem to be quite low, haven't measured it but spit seems to sit on the cooling head without boiling away!!!

Can anybody offer any advice as I really want to get it right with this engine as I've heard lots of good things about it (plus the missus will get a cob on if I blow it up as I've spent a small fortune on the engine and its various accessories).

Thanks in advance

Nige

Hi mate, im running a ninja 21, youl love it once its sorted.
Get it off the box and get some heat into it. The heat cycling method is what i use which means getting the truck on the ground and driving "carefully" to get the mill into the 200-220 temp range to allow the proper expansion of the engine parts. Take a look at this, explains the idea behind it. In saying that everyone has there preferred method for break in, which ever you choose good luck:p

Is there anything else I need to be aware of with this engine??

Cheers

Well i haven't really had any issues running it so not much to say really.
Usual stuff i guess which is, if you've not run much nitro, piston to BDC after every fire up, after run oil if you "believe" in using it, some do some don't. Oh and steady on that finger  she's a flyer:D

Nigel

I have 2 Ninja .21 & 1 Ninja .28 ......... I experienced exactly the same "revving" up that you are experiencing when running in one of my .21 and found that the low end needle setting was way too lean from the factory.
Richened it up and had no problems from then.

7 tanks later and she goes like sh*t off a shovel now so thanks for all the advice
