As the title says, what are the effects of changing the timing on a 10.5* novak brusless motor, i am fairly new to this whole brushless buisness, is it just the same principals as brushed??

mmm... i read a post on here about gearing a 10.5 and one of the replys was to increse the timing by 1 deg?? as i say i dont know much about brushless timing

no bloody wonder they take ages to get to you in the morning !!! ;)

I would do exactly what the manufacturer recommend, and I believe that is do not touch. why would you though, gear it higher :D

What does the manufacturer recommend then, if you run it on a different manufacturers speedo. As the LRP/Nosram speedos are pre programmed with more timing than the Novak version.

To answer the original question, I tried it and noticed no difference whatsoever.

aye, i run a Nosram Set up wiith the power profile set around 4, i take it those programmes are what u mean by " are pre programmed with more timing than the Novak version." to be honest i think i might just leave it alone, dont wanna damage the motor as they are pretty hard to come by these days

No, the programs in the speedo dont affect timing. I'm not sure exactly what they do, but I think its more to do with frequency, which alters the punch/feel

yea i thought that was what u meant, i can feel the difference in the different programs, they just change the mapping not the timming

My 2p...

Although a 4*, setting the timing between 4deg and 6deg gives noticeably more punch and speed, and makes the motor run more 'cleanly'. At 2deg (factory setting on mine) nothing much seems awry, until you advance the timing. That's 4-cell, and 4*, so try it on 6-cell 10.5.

Timing is all down to the Hall Effect switches, attached to the moveable ring. Quite why it isn't a software thing (which it easily could be) I don't know. I didn't realise that timing could be altered on a so-called stock rated motor (10.5) but if it can, it's hardly 'Stock', is it?

Hope you try it on your motor, as it always works on our cars, providing a perkier motor that seems to take almost nothing from duration. HTH :)

Yeh dont get me wrong, I never noticed any ill effects, but as my 10.5 is more like a 15t, and it was competing with 19ts, I never felt it necessary.

Novaks new range of stock and spec 'equivalents' have fixed timing.
