Clive,

13th & 14th Dec 2003, program it in to your phone, or just look at an entry form! I'm sure you'll get a couple of e mails to remind you!!

All credit to you though, you still made it with the heats in our timming kit in time for the first heat, good effort

Gareth

Good Effort...

Miracle more like, apparently a little bird told me the 2 previous owners of that grey Mondeo was some blokes called Kirk & Picard...

Though not so sure that the rumour why Clive only took an hour and a half to get from Portsmouth to Plymouth was down to a tear in the time space continuum, sounds more like Klingon fog that one..

Though Of course he could have just thrashed the berries out of it ;D

Jim

Thanks Lads,

All credit to the dirvers at Plymouth for Saturday.

3 Rounds, and two finals all completed in 6 hours!!!

Good job and thanks to you all.

Mondeo, to be honest It has not gone so well since its little warp factor 9 trip.

Did you all know that a Mk 2 Ford Mondeo Turbo Diesel LX is the code name for Starship Enterprise, and the rip in the space time continuim was the BRCA short cut!!!

Cheers

Clive.

PDW
25-11-2003, 08:02 PM
Beg to differ .....

If the space/time continium was so ripped without the awarding of penalty points on Clive's Space Cadet O level in time travel, then surely a Klingon cloaking device was in effect - and that makes the Mondeo a Klingon vessel (BRCA shortcut or not) ;D

A true vessel of the Federation is anything driven by Jim S - and he redifines the statement "The di-lithium crystals cannae stand it Cap'n!" Warp Factor 8? ..... merely Jim's starship on tickover!!!! ;D

ccoomes
25-11-2003, 11:22 PM
Hmm,

Though this was all about racing, and not some stupid fictional Sci-fi effort!!!

Shall I bring DS9 into the equation.

Nope, hang on I think a Stargate involved getting me from Poole to Portsmouth!!!

You may have a point the Mr KRob!!!

I am surprised,

I started this thread to start the bashing about my little mnistake of getting the weekend wrong, and look we are now talking about Sci-Fi and warp factor nine.

Model car racers are a weird bunch, and yes that includes you Mr Bevans!!!

Note, correct spelling of Bevens!!!

Sorry Clive, to get back to topic..

What a *silly fool* you are for forgetting the date of the Plymouth meeting!!

Dave Treacy

Plymouth meeting - seems like forgetfullness is becoming endemic for 1/12th racers.... :o :o

Also, what is a "hole season"? or was he just having a hale of a time....?

KRob

Ahhhh, Dave,
Are you aware of the reason for this thread?

Dave Treacy
26-11-2003, 07:23 PM
I thought it was Clive wasn't sure when the Mold national was taking place. ???

B_Final_Bob
26-11-2003, 07:24 PM
Okay, boredom has struck so I have tried to work out Clive's average speed from Portsmouth to Plymouth.

According to AA mapbook Portsmouth to Plymouth is 172 miles ( ??? :- ) so 172/1.5 = 114.6mph if that's right it's a very, very good effort considering it was a diesel mondeo - maybe you should let us in on the secret modifications that were carried out????

*** Disclaimer - my maths is terrible so that could be way way off what speeds Clive was driving at!!! And no one condones speeding - especially in built up areas!

Well, yes and no!!!

While I am quite sure Clive does not know when the meeting at Mold is supposed to be ;D, he actually got the date completely wrong for the last national at Plymouth.
He was a little late arriving :-[ (cue talk about warpspeed)

And fair play to Clive for taking it all in good humour, because he won't be allowed to forget it for a while ;)

Knowing where Clive lives, I've just done it on autoroute and it works out at just short of 120 miles and took him nearer 2 hours, also knowing clive knows a lot of the shortcuts out of the Poole area it would probably be shorter than that. Now if it's 12o miles in 2 hours, thats only 60mph, the question now is, What kept you!?! ;D ;D

KRob
27-11-2003, 04:28 PM
I should of course add that Clive does an excellent job as time-keeper at 12th nationals and manfully stepped into a gap that needed filling, and we would be stuffed without him. :)
(Any chance of a couple of extra laps for that Clive? ;))

ccoomes
27-11-2003, 05:26 PM
Cheers Lads,

I really did think Dave was winding me up, but some people are just too kind.

Gareth was correct, as it was just over 120 miles, and two hours was the time taken, so yep Aver was 60MPH.

AND

I NEVER broke the triple figures barrier. Well I would have but it was a diesel Mondeo, as Liam put it!!

Keith,

You said I will be reminded about it for a while, I thought it was going to be forever!!!!!

Follow your compliments with a cheque and you have FTD!!!

Clive,

To answer your origanal question

:o NEXT WEEKEND :o

PDW
05-12-2003, 12:52 PM
OK, now we've answered the original question, can we get back to the interesting stuff?

The World Record for travel to Nationals is held by Mick Langridge. From Southampton to Washington in 4 hours - that is 380 miles in case anyone is counting - and it included two fuel stops. I can attest to the fact that Sierra XR 4x4s have a strange vibration in the transmission tunnel at an indicated 135mph.

Unless of course you know better .........

gbevens

380 Miles in 4 hours, impressive. Mr S is the only person who's made print though! Mind you Clive might soon!!

Anyone know what the track layout is going to be , tight and twisty or open and fast ?? as i have just emailed an entry form off for the saturday and it will be my first 12th national after racing 12ths at club level for little over a month.

Dave Treacy
05-12-2003, 06:57 PM
The track is only laid on the Friday night before the national. Usually they are challenging :o Suggest you setup for technical and go from there when you see the track on Saturday!

Where is everyone staying? I have still to book a hotel.

PDW
05-12-2003, 07:06 PM
Same question for me - any clues anyone? Also, if anyone is looking for a lift from Derby to Mold, please PM me. Have some space and will probably travel Sat am.

I would imagine it will be tighter than Macc and Plymouth as it's a smaller venue.

Hi All

Re the hotels bit, on the National Info thread, the Mold confirmation is listed c/w phone numbers for an assortment of nearby hotels.
Anybody who's been to a previous Mold national check the location as this ones at a different hall.

Track will probably be on the tighter side as its one of the smaller venue's this season.

See you all next weekend.

At high wycombe our track is very tight. A few months back, we had to reduce the minimum lap time from 8 secs to 7, because on a particular layout, I did several sub 8-second laps in a final (and thats without additive!) I can't imagine what a top national driver could do it in! We also race mardave cars, and get sub ten second laps!

Dave Treacy

Jim,

As I said in my original post, nothing available in a twin from those on the list...that's why I ended up shopping around...

Ha Ha the other week we had to drop the min lap time down to 5seconds as two drivers where lapping to fast for the settings on the computer. I will have to dig out my old P2K stock motor for the Mold meeting as we run BRM control ballraced stocks at my local Ashby club.

yeah it was. I was B final specialist last year!! and on sat at Macc. Made 6th sun at Macc, then this weekend.

jim won the A on sat, cant remember TQ.

griff won the A on sunday and took TQ

kieth robertson drove amazing, for the first time ever i actually watched him drive 12th, soooo tight, controlled, fast. excellent work mate. he finished 2nd in the A i think on sunday... not sure where on sat

i had my best weekends racing ever... on sat i made that elusive A-final, finsihed 6th from 8th on the grid, well chuffed

and yesterday i won the C, after a poor qualifying.

an excellent track, i must say i do prefer smaller tracks, just the pitting was a bit un-orthodox, and the marquee thingy on the ceileing was most annoying, especially when your 6ft 3 and you like to hold your transmitter vertically! LOL

thanks to mold, all the guys and gals that helped me, and especially roger and glyn ;)

thanks guys, see you in TEESIDE ( MattW) :D

Matt Rice :D
