Hi all.
Im about to buy a Mission Carbon as my first 'real' car and i would like to know what will i need to go with this. I know i will need motor, ESC etc but what you do you guys recommend i should purchase. Im looking for speed and possibly a 12t motor but which? A friends car has a 12t motor but he has a Tamiya car. I need to compete with that.
Also, are the stock parts on the Mission good enough for racing or will the parts needs to be 'upgraded' too? Thats the thing i dont like too much about the Tamiya car my friend has, having to buy hop up parts. I have a Tamiya car but it was only a cheap mess around car for the car park but i want to get into more serious racing.
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers.

As with all kit cars you will need to supply the servo, receiver, speed controller and motor.
I would suggest that you try racing the Mission Carbon out of the box and see what you think - it really is very good. Then decide what else you need. If you have a look at the Ask Mark Burgess thread he points you in the direction of some of the hop-ups you may want to try.

I will look at that thread and have a look at hop up options. Thanks
Going back to motors, speed controller & servo. I mean it doesnt have to be the best but has to run well. Which is recommended for this car?
If your racing indoors and a beginer I would say something with revers, nosram tomahawk. As for servos just a £5 servo will do the job, I have raced with them for nearly 2years with no problem.

The previous post suggests an esc with reverse when racing in doors. For racing indoors or outside, I would not recommend a driving a car in reverse. Often when you reverse after a crash you hit a car travelling in the correct direct and hence cause another crash. Marshalls are there to recover crashed cars.
I help run the langley model car club (www.lmcc.fsnet.co.uk) and we discourage drivers from using reverse while racing.

My friend has a nosram patriot reverse and a 12t team orion motor. Do you think this might be overkill? I will be wanting to race indoors and out. If it is overkill could you recommend a motor and ESC that i should look at?
Cheers.

Good point, I havent run reverse for nearly a year now, the way I see it is.....if you have reverse when your racing you think it doesnt matter if you crash because you can reverse out of the ropes, if you havent got reverse then you feel you have to drive harder because if you crash then you will lose more time....my driving improved when I got my 7.1 . If you will be racing both indoors and outdoors I would say get a forward and reverse speedo, I think the M-tronics £90 forward and reverse is good.

You may aswell get the Mission S1, save yourself 50notes and the car will be a bit easier to set up, and more foregiving......i think ::)
The extra £50 is worth is, as the c/f chassis on its own near enough costs that! C/f chassis will be better because you will have to get a good set up for it to drive well, you will have more of an idea on what effects different things have on the car if you change them that you might not feel with the S1.

Ok i get the point with the esc. So which is recommended and with what motor? Also is there anything else i will need that you would consider when setting up a new car. Noob needs serious help here. I will be going for the carbon i can get one for £127 so its got to be worth it.
I would not buy a nosram tomahawk if I was you (only a 17t limit) The £90 M-tronics i would say get, its forward reverse and will handle a 12t motor. As for a motor get a orion modified (the new end bell ones) the fly! Also get some 3300 cells.
I have had my mission for 4 months and i still run it standard out of the box. It keeps up with the other cars no problem but i find that set up is still headwork (maybe thats just me). We all run 27 turn stock in WRCA meetings and all the cars go pretty fast. I run a reedy mvp and an mtroniks sport rv with a futaba servo.
It's a very good car without spending silly money on extras.
One thing i will advise though: there is a fence that clips onto the layshaft pulley(17tooth or 20 tooth) to stop the rear belt coming off(page 6 of manual). GLUE IT ON!!.
It came off twice yesterday loosing me valuable time!!!

There is only one reason that the layshaft pully fence comes off............You have put it on THE WRONG WAY ROUND. ;D
If it goes on easily, it is wrong, if it feels that it is impossible to get it on the way you are trying, that is the correct way.
I thought of that aswell , i tried it both ways and it was the same. I even checked it with a brand spanking new one out of the bag and was still the same, in the end my tyre glue won the argument of the loosly fitting fence!
I use 17 tooth pully with the mount holes facing rear.
Thats the correct way round for the 17tooth pully. If you put it on the wrong way round then the belt will just slip.

Mark - I dissagree with you here. Buying a top of the range Mission, 3300 cells, Orion Revolution motor, Expensive speed controler wont make a beginner any quicker! You need something that will take a battering, not be overly expensive, and not so quick you cant control it. So I would reccomend a Mission S1, 27t Stock motor, a not overly priced speedo, and some 2400 packs.
I recomended 3300's because they are basicly idiot proof, they dont need discharging and they will not dump (should not dump). He said what speedo we would recomend with a 12t motor, I would definatly not recomend a 12t motor for a beginer, but thats what he wants, I aint gonna try and stop him...im just giving him advice.

In my opinion you wouldn'y go far wrong with a 19turn motor to start - it will be faster than you can drive to start with, and when you get the hang of it fast enough to keep up with pretty much anyone else. Plus cost is cheaper at £30 rather than a full blown 12turn price.
Speed controller - personally I would buy a model you know you can get fixed. They don't go wrong very often (nowadays - I remember a time...) so something with a 12 turn limit that is well supported in your area. If you use a local model shop, support them!
Options I've listed in the "Ask..." thread - run it out of the box to start with, and it will go well!
Cheers

I already have 2 Tamiya cars for mess around and crashing (lots of) 1 TT-01 chassis and an off road. The reason im getting a mission is because id be crazy not to at the price as from what i have been told they are quality.
I was thinking of getting a 12T motor and a decent ESC as you can turn power down. The nosram ESC' are sold by my local model shop. I think i will be going for a 19T motor instead for a more natural progression, after all i am a noob. I will also be getting another couple batt packs, which ones are recommended? I have a peak racing 3000 pack now are these any good?
For beginner I would say 27t, there more than enought speed, I still race them now (1 year 6months later)......or is it my driving ::)
Totally agree with Mr Mark Burgess.... except with the 19T bit for someone who is used to trashing around in Tamiyas... with the Missions handling and efficency i am concerned that it will be seriously fast for him in the beginning. Believe us, the Mission (Carbon or S1) straight from the box is better than any Tamiya 01 series with all the hotups you can buy on a race track... just get enough cells and crystals and a good charger to get the racing bug in you... :D
As for speedo.... I'd say look for a MRT Sport (water proof) or the CS Rocket Sport speedo... both well under 100 pounds, most LHS can order it for you... for cells, just dont get stick packs and GP3300 is probably the ones to go for as they are more robust than 3000s and requires less maintenance than 2400's.

Ok, i have looked at the 2 speedos you have mentioned and im pretty sure which ill be get along with a 19T motor. Are there any set up tips/sheets that are available to download etc?

If you go to here: http://195.92.181.110:8090/~technicalinfo you will find a hole load of set up sheets available to download!
Also have a browse on here, and you will probably find a thread covering your needs!
Set up sheets are good, but every one has a different driving style, its best to just get a good standard set up, then experiment with changing one thing at a time to suit your driving stlye....takes time but you have to have patients.
