Hi Myself and a few mates are considering starting ic touring, the other two have already bought NTC3's, I know this subject has been covered but could you all give youre unbiased opinion on cars, engines, Tyres (would be using rubber for consistency), inserts. We are all based in the Channel Islands and would be travelling over for meetings (mad i know) so the number of meetings would be quite low, this could also make cars that would not normally be considered an option (high maintenance) viable as there would not be a great amount of wear and tear on them, will we awaiting youre responses :) :) :) :) :)

Stick with what your mates have got. Cuts down on the spares problem straight away. Another thing is the NTC3 is a bloody good car. My son has driven one since they first appeared in the UK. No doubt others will think that other cars are better. The choice of engines is enormous but see what the top runners have been using in 2003 and then take your pick. Tyres wise either Take Off or the Ing range of tyres cover just about all your needs, apart for damp/wet tracks then its the Pits Narrow treaded.

John has spoke some good words
same car, share spares and set ups!
tyres as john says

ing tyres use ing inserts and the new ing wheels
take off use schmacher 24mm wheels and echo inserts (thick)
Sorex never tried them but been told by those who have they can go off then come back again, Andy wallis (rubber champ) ran them but then he also ran takes off's

Other cars that you should consider are:

Serpent 710 - Untried on rubber tyres but looks to be a very good car with excellent on-line support.

TM G4 - Appears to work well on both rubber and foam but has a weak chassis, although K-Factory do a 4mm optional chassis.

Schumacher R12 - Another very good car although I've heard complaints that it looses it's settings.

Mugen MTX3 - A lot of guys swear by the Mugen, again a good car and very popular.

All of the above cars are very good and capable of winning, I assume living in the channel Islands all your spares will be ordered over the phone so it does'nt matter which one you go for.

On the tyre front I have found that Sorex work very well, they appear to last longer than the Take-Off and stay on the rims better.

Engine wise I like the Novarossi based engines, but equally Sirio, Rossi and the budget STS range can all perform.

As a matter of interest, from the channel Islands you can fly into Lydd airport which is only a 10 minute drive from the Brooklands circuit and a very good model shop that can supply most of the above at excellent prices. PM me if you require details.

i think that you should go for the serpent 710. it truly is an excellent bit of kit. its gonna kick the NTC3's ass this year, so if you want to beat your mates then this is the car to go for. its got some clever features, like the dynamic rear steering that gives you rear toe-in and rear wheel assistance in the corners, but keeps the wheels straight while your going straight to maximise acceleration. its really strong as well ;D

How do all the other cars fare using rubber tyres, i have heard the NTC3 runs well out the box on rubber tyres, are the other cars harder to set up for rubber or the same?? also what is the consencus of opinion regarding power what is to much or is that a non issue.

Thanks Jason ;D

Dynamic rear steering? sounds fasinating, exept that the Kyosho SuperTen FW04 had it, and they wasn't the first.
I had to convert the rear of the FW04 back to a standard set up as the active steering caused unpredictable handling with Rubber tires, but it worked a treat with the Foams.

pb or bmp or somthing similar had it too and they scraped it for the same reason as nimo states!

some if not most of the cars are designed around the foam tyres (reason the serpant was not so popular in rubber) but this seems to be changing a bit. at the end of the days all the cars can be set up for rubber and set up sheets can be found on web sites for foam and rubber
