View Full Version : Where do you put your PT?
I'd like some feedback on PT mounting positions in 1/12th cars.
I want to put mine above the servo, but there were some issues with this at the 1/8th Gas Track Worlds. Has anyone done this, and were there any problems? Has anyone mounted theirs on top of the (carbon) chassis - another alleged no-no?
Hope you can help, thanks.

Mine is servo taped to my servo, never had any problems with either servo or PT. I think Jason Butterfield has his in the same place.

yeah i'm sure i've seen some on top of the servo, i run mine on top of servo in touring car. Mine is next to servo on carbon chassis in my 12th car. Neither locations have caused any problems at all.
Hi Pete,
I run my PT taped to the top of my servo and not had any problems with either laps being counted or interference (touch wood!).
I have also seen them placed flat on the chassis (carbon) with no problems.
Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

I mount mine above the servo, and I have had no problems at all. Just ask anyone how hard I can hit a track marking. It has survived better than a pack of batteries which snapped the battery bar!!! ???
The only problems raised at the 1/12 national are as follows:
Broken transponder due to either damage or dodge connection at the recevier.
OR
a problem when the plug is the wrong way round in the receiver, eg the red wire (I think) is plugged into the signal feed and not the voltage.
SO
always check your plugs and the correct orentation of the plug in the reciever and that they are in good condition.
I wounder if the Gas problems were due to the vibrations?

Pete,
I've had mine mounted on the chassis without a single glitch. The only the thing with RC Timing (this could be a limitation of the system RC) is there is no feedback on signal strength so it's difficult to say where is best but I believe they work better mounted horizontally as with the analogue and digital handouts (don't ask me for any technical reasons, I just remember hearing it once)
Gareth
Gareth,
Yes, horizontal is correct. The PT instructions state that one should NOT mount them vertically. See you at the weekend!!
Cheers - Peter
OK, it was on the servo and it worked faultlessly. Thanks again to you all. Now, if I could just stop knocking the bugger off by hitting the scenery ....... ;D

I think that over the weekend there were a few PT's which at one point or another were vertical on the wall at the end of the straight!

Used to have mine on top of the servo and like you Pete the scenery used to remove it. Now it's flat on the chassis it has stayed put. Sod's law next time out it'll move.
Looking back to it being on the servo I may have suffered from some interference as since it's been on the chassis things have improved. Maybe I should try it back on the servo just to see.

Maybe PDW could use some of your servo tape ;D
Chesterfield GP 2003 I suffered all weekend with glitching. 1st time I used PT as at South Shields I used BRCA transponder and can recall no probs.
