hello,

i'm thinking of getting a IC car to start racing again, after a break of 5 years from racing electric (starting up electric stock as well)

i live near wombwell race track and used to race electric there but fancy running IC as well for outdoors, so getting to club races not a problem

thing is i cant decide what car, as on a budget. the schumacher mission 12 looks promising at 170 quid on sale. i know spares are easy to get hold of and are cheap. i will need an engine (.12 size) and this is where i have no idea! thinking of spending about £100-130, but will pay more if getting moneys worth. any help on choosing the right engine would be greatly appreciated!

on the engine front would a OS Hyper 12 CV suffice at 110 notes? prob get a hot-bodies nicad starter box as well so dont have to lug a 12 volter around.

also alternatively to the schumacher would be associated rtr at 315 notes inc engine, but i believe this would need modifications in the future, and i'm not too keen on bevel gears - too many sleepless nights back in 98 with stripping gears on my tenth technology predator!

how much are these team magic and mugen cars people are recomending? also whats the availability of spares at meetings like?

cheers

Your best bet is to go to your local club and find out what they are racing and what the trackside spares situation is like.

As for bevel gears, I run an FW05, and I hear from those around the world running the same car that some manage to strip the rear one every run, yet I've done over 20 hours of running and although I have recently changed the 40t bevel gears to 39t (as recommended by the Japanese) the original front gear is as new and the rear is starting to hook but no teeth are missing or chipped.

Schumacher is not the strongest out there.

go to the track at least one has a TM car!
tm car is good value for money mugen is also good but not as cheap.
engines i have allways run nova rossi, get a budget one learn on it then buy a racer!
i may have a as new rossi mt engine and a standerd one of these won at the last rubber nationals
ps im near doncaster

how much are tm's, the schumacher is 170 quid inc 2 speed, tuned pipe, alloy shocks etc so think that looks best if i can fit a decent engine in it.

i know you said it wasnt the strongest car but i know schumacher parts are cheap and easy to get hold of. if i would definately be better off with a tm then i would have to see how much they are and weigh up the pros cons etc.

do you race at wombwell? if so will see you down there in't summer!

I agree the Schuee is a good option for you at the money. Oh and remember it did win the Nationals by some margin last year with a Rossi Pixy eng in it.
Like you say, the bits are cheap and there were, I think, 4 cars in the overall top ten last year so they are proving to be reliable.

Matt i know for fact you could not buy all the parts on the winning car!
so are you saying the others are not a good option, being as you sell the fusion?

Gazza,

I run a schumacher r12 and since I've had it i have loved it, I'm quite new to the sport too and as such I find it relativly easy to set up, and service. (I take it completly apart after every meeting and rebuild).

The price has gone down too, so there's another reason to consider it.

that's my pennys worth.

Didier

i run a serpent 710 at wombwell, :D and for the money you are looking at, i think your looking at a team magic car for sure. shumachers are ok, but they arent as competitive as other cars on the market. now im not trying to steal business from british firms or owt :-X but there is a website company based in hong kong called rc-********.com, and they will sell you a TM for about £*** less. that will give you more of a budget for a better, faster engine! ;D

Can you keep these type of posts to PM's only

someone metioned that the shumacher won the nat champs last year, but i was there and you should have seen the hopups on the car! there must have been at least £150 of parts on there to try and make it competitive against the rivals and to make the chassis stronger and stiffer. im not trying to put them down ::) but i think the team magic would be a better option for you
