Well being a 16 turn motor, it is definately a modified! Has it been serviced? After a five minute run, you should still be able to hold it for a couple of seconds. It is not advisable to run the same turn motor as the limit on the speedo, since the speedo will get very warm and will be prone to failure. Given your speedos 16 turn limit, a mildly setup 17 or even better a 19T super stock would be more appropriate.
You 16 T motor does sound as if it needs a service, but also check that the car runs freely as well, any binding in the car will quickly heat up a motor.

For a modified motor, check out the orion orbital 2 BB, very reliable motor and relatively cheap. As for the 19T, check out the stock motors section, there is tonnes of advice there.
BUT, whether you choose mod or stock, you MUST have it serviced after every meeting, this as i am sure you know involves getting it skimmed and rebrushed. Without this service, on a regular basis, any motor you choose will soon fall into disrepair and fail to perfom. It is vital.

does it have to be serviced after every sesion? or can i do 3/4 sesions then get it done?

OK, get it serviced every 5 runs of five minutes. Sounds like a lot of faff and cash, especially if you are "just bashing", but they really do need it, and in the long run you will save money by having it done, because your motor will last so much longer. Also, with a well maintained motor, your 1700s will give longer run times, because less of the energy is being wasted heating up the motor!
Oh, please forget the brake cleaner method, really does more harm than good!

You will need to ask that one in the tamyia section, they will know best. Once you have decided what motor you are going to go for, let them know in your question, and also let them know what surface you are racing on, and indeed whether you are racing or "just bashing". With all of that info, they will be able to advise which pinion to use.

i call it laminted tiling and it hurts when you fall on it, it also gets thin layers of dust on it which makes it slippy.
