Im going to be rebuilding my TC3 with an irs diff (in the back), and was wondering where i should start shimming wise. I know no-ones going to be able to give me the definitive answer but i was just looking for a starting point for me to work from.
Thanks,
Ben
hi ben
build the diffs up and place them in the diff casing without the shims. also leave the pinion and imput shafts out.move the diff side to side if their is any play fit one shim on the long out drive end.
if the play has gone and it spins free in the casing job done.
ps if fitting one shim makes the diff even slightly tight putting into the casing leave it out as this puts aload on the bearings and causes drag.
also shim imput shaft back so their is slight play between drive geer and ring gear.
hope this helps n wilson

Thanks for the reply. Ive found that one shim is too much, and none is not enough, so i have taken down one shim on a coarse diamond file, and its fine now.
