There are quite a few informative BC threads a couple of pages down on this forum, should be worthwile reading.

Is the car any good .... I should coco!!!!!!

Is it the best out of the box 4wd you can buy at the moment ..... YEP!

Is it the best value? Sure is!

Will the standard shock work well on carpet? I run Associated shocks off-road but ALWAYS run the Yokomo inside on carpet ..... they work fine!

Is it British national and European champ???? Was last time I looked!

Did it nearly win the worlds in the hands of Billy Easton? ever so close...

Can I stop now?????????

Rog

P.S. As far as set-ups go just ask, more than happy to help!! (I'm a steering monster though so beware!!!)

i guess you like the car ;D ,i no thats it done well in the hand of the top drivers :o .but we are not all blessed with skill like that (ask the marshells as i give them a good work out !!!! ;D ) .if you could give a good set up for carpet that would be great ,also any info on build or parts to get ?

Been covered in other threads ... have a read.

Basically the gold bearings go in the front, silver in the rear and make sure you shim the drive train up properly (have to by shims but they are cheap) and sometime have to tickle the plastic around where the belt meets teh front diff as it can rub there.

The only other thing to suggest is that you take care with the diffs and use only 'shouldered' diff screws ...... sometimes they are in the box so no probs there.

Don't over tighten the diffs either! I have replaced the diff balls with plain steel Losi balls but that is just me wanting silky diffs. Plates are a bit too soft for use with the kit carbide balls.

Finally don't overtighten the screws, especially around the transmisson as it is possible to bind up the bearings.

As for bits to buy well that is upto you.

I have gone for king pin ball stud conversion (suits my style)
under chassis heat sink plate (suits my motors and gearings)
Alloy front knuckles (more reliable).

Associated shocks do make an improvement on very rough tracks but on carpet and "smoother" out door tracks the kit ones are fine and oh so nice to build and don't leak!!

Can you tell me which associated shocks you bought for your BC? I've got a BC but we only run buggies outdoors during the summer so while its off the road I'm uprating a few bits and bobs.

Thanks

You need 1.18" (B4) bodies on the rear (AS9661 or AS9662 threaded) with 1.32" shafts (AS6458 or AS6416 unobtanium)
0.89" (B3/4) bodies on the front (AS9310 or AS9312 threaded) with 0.71" shafts (AS6460 or AS6418 unobtanium)

Question:

Do the 1.32 shafts hit the top of the shocks at full compression when run with 1.18 bodies?

Yes they do but you should never get there if the car is set-up / driven correctly .... not even from the biggests of jumps.

By the way, Doom is spot on with the numbers but forgot to say #3's in the front 35wt .060 down travel shim. Rear #2's with 35wt no down travel shims.

Mount both on inside hole on the wishbone. Front in on tower, rear mid on tower.

Start with Ass buggy blues on the front and greys on the back ..... go kick some Losi butt ...... if you miss the first time you will get a chance or 3 latter in the run ..... ;) ;D :P

I didn't forget the oil and piston info, I don't know it! :o

So why not run 1.32 bodies?

Basically you end up having to put so much down travel limiting in you end up with the reverse of the situation you'd get with the Yokomo shocks.

Not a disaster but not desirable.

When Mick Cragg and I first discussed this I could not see the reasons. It took a few nights of full on fluid dynamics calcs before I had it all work out!!!!!

All I can ssay is that Neil has a hell of a talent to "feel" what he did as it's so subtle on the maths front it's almost not there!!!!!!

Trust me, it makes a huge difference to the car on the rough stuff (naff all on the smooth hence I use Yokomo shock on carpet as I think they are better that the Ass' shocks build quality wise!!).

To cut a long story short it is all about the starting (ie. @ ride height) position of the piston in the oil volume and the way in which that effects the fluid transfer. Essentially it is about trying to avoid a sharply rising rate of pack and thus the rear end kicking up over the rough.

I have stated the theory before and got about 1,000,000 Pm's asking for further explaination. Trust me .... it just is true ....
