What is considered to hot for an electric motor? I have a Lehner brushless motor and want to know what temp is to hot?

if you can hold it for 2 secs after its run then it's about right!

Brushless motors should not really get too hot, as it is damaging to the magnets on the rotor - I would say 50 degrees would be a maximum limit.

Keith, a suitably gear BL motor should never get HOT to the touch, warm yes but not hot! If it is you are over geared.
<Edit> Sorry, Marcus got there first.

LOL!!! You seen the size of that motor, in another thread he states its 700W @ 55A - what a monster!
I've got a Novak BL system and although the motor gets only warm, the speedo gets VERY hot. Especially when your doing alot of braking.
Is this normal for the Novak system? ???

If you do lots of braking, then yes it will get warm, its got a lot of work to do driving the three windings at the same time. I installed a mini fan onto my heatsink to combat that effect.

Thanks for the info - Are fans easy to install on the car? Can you post a pic of what it looks like when it is installed?
I have a long stretch of road next to work that I will be doing my tests on. I am going to do some speed test and learn what gearing does what and how many batteries do what.
I have a couple of temp guns, so I can check temp easily. I ordered a Venom Speed Meter to get acurate speed measurements. So I think this will be interesting when the speed meter arrives.
