right then...
im thinkin of entering the stafford national, i shall be using a shuey mission, with a monster stock motor.
need a few answers
1) do you think i cud make the time on decent 2000's? i race them indoor all the time and make time easy with 600mah+ left so....
2) what kinds of pinions will i need? indoors i run about a 22, but for stafford what would you recommend with the 17tooth pulley?
also can anyone give me a really good base setup? i shall be using take off cs27's with medium inserts in...need to know springs, ride height, everything!
also i shall be using a dodge stratus 2.0 shell, i have nothing else so please take this into consideration in the setup.
thank you all in advance, lookin for some speedy replies please! THANKS!! :D

Well myself, Jason, Chris Kerswell plus a number of other Schumacher team drivers will be at Stafford. So plenty of advice on hand..and we don't bite!
Answers to the questions :-
1) I think run time would be really tight with 2000 cells on a big outdoor track like Stafford. Might make 5 minutes ok, but if it was me I'd have something like 2400s, 3000s or GP3300s with me just in case.
2) Run the 20 tooth pulley outdoors - smaller pinions and the belt doesn't have to wrap around that small 17 tooth pulley!
For the Monster/Fantom Silver try :-
- 20 tooth pulley either 26/83 (safe) or 28/84 (aggressive)
- 17 tooth pulley either 31/83 (safe) or 33/84 (aggressive)
Stratus 2.0 is a good choice for Stafford - either that or the original Stratus. If you've not been to a National before make sure you've checked as many of the bodyshell rules as possible. Or ask the nice scruitineers to check your car as early as you can!
I'll e-mail a stock set up from last year's BTCC and a 19-turn set up from this year's BTCC - both good enough for pole, and were spot on for Stafford.
Cheers

Matt,
Do you want my set-up for Stafford.
I haven't been there yet, but I can pretty much guarantee it will be the same as my WLRC set-up, or Barham.....or Ashby.......or etc... ::) :P ;D ;)

Hi Keith - I suspect you might have to change set up a bit mate. You may be right, but we had to make big changes for the BTCC.
See you next saturday,

Your not wrong Mark, at last years national I turned up with my standard set up and pulled the car off after about 1 lap of first practice and went off for a long think.

(have now put 20 tooth pinion on with a 28/86 ratio....so a teeny bit less agressive than 28/83

so nothing special like "inch ups" or anything?
is the monster a good choice for stafford or would you reccomend something else?
also, something that amazes me....if people can dump 2000's on stock motors, how did we ever survive without better batteries? or is it just that we now run taller gearing than before? are you sure that i would dump on 2000's? indoors i normally have about 600mah left after 5 mins of hard racing on rubbers. whats the difference in battery consumption outdoors/indoors?
cheers

Okay then guys.
Never having raced at Stafford and been told it is quite slippy - Do I use a one-way or a diff in the front?
(Don't say spool - I don't have one)
One day I might know what I'm doing with a tourer ;)

i also would like to knwo this...and i also dont have a spool! :Plol
i have been told the grip isnt the best, but have also been told that there is hardly any stop-go corners....which means that there wont be much braking...which means you might get away with a oneway.
i shall be using a diff methinks, from what i have been told i think it mat be the better option
and i also dont know a jot about tourers! lol ::)
cheers

Keith,
Your safe with the oneway in stock but I might give the spool a try in 19T.
Both Mark and I ran oneways at the BTCC in 19T.

Matt,
The oneway works fine that how I ran at the BTCC as did Mark B. Cars were very good so we did not try diffs (it started raining on Saturday afternoon). We were 1st & 2nd in 19T and would have both made the mod A easily.
But with a very good base set up to go back to this time I will try the diff and the spool.
Jason
Thanks Jason, I'll leave the one-way i for the moment.
(And then change at the weekend when it rains :-)

it wont rain, i will be sunny
it wont rain, i will be sunny
it wont rain, i will be sunny
it wont rain, i will be sunny
it wont rain, i will be sunny
there we go...positive mental attitude! lol ;) shall leave diff in and try oneway if its ok weather
the weather situation is looking a little better for the weekend, bring on stafford :)
