View Full Version : Assassin Diff mounting

OK I have just bought the 4 degree caster blocks and the hingepin adj blocks so have decided to take the car apart to clean/fit new parts.

However the diffs would appear to be fouling the plastic bearing surround on one side!!! The diffs have a collar that fits over the long diff shaft that has a small innner protruding lip to ensure its sits on the bearing centre piece but the other side does not have this and the plastic side of the diff rubs against the plasic bearing carrier ??? ??? Has any one else noticed this? It is doing it on both diffs (I have diff front and rear not using the one way)

Just to prove a point to myself once all the parts are removed placing the diff in its usual fitment and spinning it reveals that one side spins nice and freely but the other spins about four times then stops!!

I have checked the instructions and have not missed anything (I think) But just wondered if I was alone on this problem?

Ade ??? ???

No problems at all with our review car (which is a normal production item)

I always spin the gears on any car without the belts (or shaft) to check everything is free and the Assassin was VERY free.

We also ran ours with a front diff and the one way and both were fine.

just had a thought. The plastic bearings holders were quite tight in the alloy mount (as they should be) are you 100% sure they are seated fully ?

Yep I have ensured everything is fully seated. But its almost like it would benefit from a shim inserted (between the two bearings) to ensure the plastic diff casing on the side without the adjustment collar cannot touch the plastic bearing carrier. Like I said the side with the collar has this type of design built into it and is much more free than the other ???

So i'm a touch confused now?? I have checked a number of times now that I built everything correctly and yes the car is very fast but I just feel that area could be freer still (not sure if freer is a word but there you go).

I think a complete rebuild might be in order!! ::)

Ade,

I have just got an Assassin and have bulit most of it up. I have noticed a slight rubbing on the plastic outdrive you slide over the long out drive. It doesn't seem to effect the smoothness of the drive train, but it shouldn't happen. Have you found any solution since posting the problem?

One thing that i noticed was the spur gear not running quite true. I did up each of the small screws carefully, but couldn't get in right, in the end a screw head snapped off, a call to Model tech is in order i think! Could this be causing the rubbing?

Has any body got the spring set yet? I have heard that they are all black, is it very difficult to tell one spring from another?

Are you at the STCC this weekend at Southend? If you are i will pop over and have a nose as i haven't seen anybody else with one yet.

Thanks

Chris

Chris, if you call we have a fix for this - the diff cover rubbing. Also make sure the inner diff bearing are fully seated intothe diff outdrive mouldings inserts.

I would check that you have the pulley correctly fitted and fully located on the three drive lugs.

The springs sets should be in next week - 16th Sept on, as well as the special weights.

<PS: yes, will be at the STCC at Southend>

I have just got the spring set, and yes they are all black
but they are all a different number of turns and this is marked on the little box that they come in.
