Hey,

Im thinking about racing with a brushless system sometime this year, and have some questions (thought it'd be best to ask after the first national when some experience has been gained).

I already have a Matrix speedo, so is it just a case of buying the BL motor and sensor wire (and dropping a cell)?

Which turn motor has been most popular at the nationals?

Thanks

Matt

Yep.

Nearly everyone is using 3.5 and 4.5 turn motors. Obviously a 3.5 is quicker , but if you're a bit heavy on the gas or your cells are a bit past their best, then you might want a 4.5. Nearly everyone is marginal on runtime with a 3.5 at the bigger tracks.

You might want a heatsink/fan for the speedo if it doesnt already have one. Better to be safe than sorry.:)

the LRP and NOSRAM motors comes with a replaceable sensor cable which is always handy.

And Mark is very right, you can NEVER run your speedo too cool, the more cooling you can let it have the better

Thanks for the (very) fast replies!

Think i'll go for a 4.5......wont be as much of a jump from the 12 turn brushed im using at the stcc than the 3.5!

Thanks again,

Matt

as were on the subject on starting out with brushless. Im thinking about doing brushless Super Stock and modified over the later part of this year think it will save me some money if i have everything ready for when i make the big jump. However, what systems would people recommend for this?

p.s Sorry to hijack :)

19t "equivalent" brushless systems aren't legal at BRCA sanctioned events, so make sure your club allow them before buying. I think the nosram 10.5 motors are supposed to be around 19t speed.

Get the Nosram matrix evolution speedo (preferably the istc version if you're only doing tc); you can run any brushless motor off it.

Can you run sensorless motors with the nosram speed controller?

The nosram speedo will not run sensorless.
For sensorless you have Mtronics, GM, Castle Creations and New Tekins to choose from.

Why would the Nosram not run a sensorless motor?

The Nosram esc is a sensored speed control--it controls only sensored motors.

For a tech article about sensored vs sensorless systems, you might want to read this.
