Hello,
I got a D5 12x1 Type B not that long ago and was not overly impressed with the speed of the motor. I am running it in a Losi XXX-S and i had my gearing fairly spot on i just couldn't get the motor to go as fast as i hoped it would of, what brushes do you recomend i run as i have only run the ones that came as standard and also will the motor get quicker after its first skim? Do you think advancing the timing will help any or should it be set properly as it come out of the packet?
Any help much appreciated!
Mark ;)

you want to go fast you probably are going to need to advance the timing more, just be careful as with recent hot weather alot of people are frying motors, with 33's, advamced timing and hi power everything......wot do you expect! :D
as for brushes, i think they come with RC4383E brushes, atleast thats what the p-94's come with, and they are all the same size so......

i have just run a D5 in my B4 buggy i geared it 3 piinions higher than normal. Motor runs really cool and is as quick as another racers 8.

i think that you can only get one type of brush for the D5 which is a shame

not likely, and even if it is so....you can always buy the conversion to let it run normal brushes

I run a D5 12x1 in my Losi xxxsg+ and I can't falt it. Its a misile with it in, you can get several different brushed for it, but I use the one's that come with the motor as they seem the best allroung brush. If you go to the Triniy website they have all the brushes avalible for the D5/P94.
The timing that came with my motor was set at 20deg and I have backed it to 18deg as many dyno test is the ideal position for my motor.

Thanks for all your advice guys.
Andrew, would you be able to do me a favour and give me the part number for the standard brushes if it isn't too much bother.
Also what gearing would you recomend for running your XXX-SG+ on an avarage sized outdoor track, just a rough idea to help me get started? Could you give me the pinion and spur if possible instead of the overal ratio.
Thanks
Mark

Right the part NO: is 4383EPNT dual shunt pro brush, there the one that come with the motor, and the ones I use, as for ratio at Milton Keyns for the stcc, I finished on a 24 Pinion and an 86 spure.

Thanks again.
Mark ;D
use a smaller sized pinion than you normally would, the trinity loves to rev so let it ;)

Cheers Bryan,
What sort of ratio did you run at Kirkcaldy so i can get an idea if i was in the right sort of area. I was on 6.59
Thanks

i run mine at around 7.59....as it revs its head off.........i would imagine that this would be about right for kirkaldy basing my assumptions on the track used for the smtca round......
regards
gordy!
cant remember for sure but i think it as 6.84 and it was very quick, was pushing a few of the "top"drivers down the straight :D

you can only get 1 size of brush as the brush hood is a different size, very slightly but it is. if you use standard brushes, say team orion. then the brush will wobble around in the hood and burn out the comm because of high resistance or somet.
you can only use them trinity brushes with the double wires on them. you can get different ratings or what ever yuo call em, e.g. 2/6 runs, 10/30 runs
unless you have any other modified motors aparet from the D5, then you may aswell chuck the spare brushes away. i think it is helgar that put the spare brushes there, not trinity, and they are useless for the D5
hope it helps

to use the standard brushes you use the D4 brush hoods...
p94 and D5 brushes/brush hoods are larger..
just wanted to set the record straight...and besides i see no point in buying the brush hoods and extra brushed when you can just trim the edge off the brush a little?

No problem fella's.
The brushes that i got extra in the packet were the full size ones for the D5 but i was just wondering what compound they were and what compounds other people recomended. I have since bought new ones and tried them with great success thanks to a few guys in the earlier posts.
Mark
that spare pair of brushes that come with your D5 are just cheapo hard copper ones, dont use them. they are terrible and make a real mess of the comm.

if you want some more speed then go for about 20 degrees timing, i do run 25 degrees and it works fine. a dunno what ratio it is.
i have a 72 and a 22 on my tc3 and it goes like a stick

Hello everyone, i have come to the point of needing a new motor as all my others have died.
i currently race a team tc3 with a no limit speedo and gp3300's on a indoor carpet track with t27 tyres.
the track is very tight and the straight is only around 10-15meters long.
i have looked at most of the motors available and the D5 seems to be the best bet as everyone is raving about how amazing it is!
the 12turn version of the D5 looks best for me but i am not sure which wind and version to get as there is a A B and C version ?!?! or would i just be better sticking with the plain 12 single.
is there currently anywhere to buy spare armatures for the D5? as i havent seen anywhere as yet.
i also looked at the team orion orbital 2 pro bb, the 12x3 version. how does this compare to the D5? its cheaper but does it compare performance wise?
does anyone recommend any other motors?
thanks for the help.

I think you'll find that the Orbital pro BB does not comare performance wise to the D5 the orbital is more of a budget motor.
Just to set the record straight as there have been several different opinions on here. The facts are:
The D5 brushes are exactly the same as the P94. They are a more square brush than either the normal stand up or laydown brushes. They come in several different compounds as with all trinity brushes and can have either single or double shunts on them. THey come as standard with the 4383epnt brush which is a high performance, high silver brush. There is definately an ultra high performance brush with a higher silver content and also a harder brush with a lower silver and higher copper content. The harder brush is longer life and is generally used more on the lower wind motors (eg 8 turn) but will not damage the com any more than the silver brush as long as you mantain the motor (High silver burns the com and tend to give more power, high copper tends to wear grooves in the com and gives more revs).
It is not really advisable to advance the timing anymore than the 20 degs that the motors tend to come out of the packet at unless you want to skim after every race as this will cause more damage to the com (tends to burn at the grooves at lot more). The brushes you get as spares are fine to run in the motor they just tend to be a harder compound and are generally single shunt rather than double.
A good overall ratio to start with for the Losi XXXs on a fairly small outdoor track is somewhere around the 6.5 / 6.6 mark
Hope this helps to clear things up

I really dont know mate but i still have a set at home so i will have a look at the part number and let you know Mark
Andy ;D
I see Trinity now have details of the 'D6' on their web-site!!
sounds like fun and did you see the no brainer body markers ..how good an idea is that... ;D

As far as orion motors go, the top spec is the core range. However, the V2 looks set to replace this in the near future.
I love the idea of angling the brushes to reduce arching. Only trouble is, you could only use orion brushes with it!
I've got a core at the moment, but I am definitely attracted to the v2; it looks so cool! 8)

here's an idea...
i wonder if glyn @ BRM will be producing a "V2" of his own? as alot of his motors (if not all) are orion top based?
