Now then,

I've got the Novak 6.5 brushless system in my Factory Team B4 but I can't seem to work out which mode in setup adjusts the punch :( (more or less aggressive acceleration)

Is it Dead Band or Minimum Drive :confused:

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Minimum drive. I run this at setting 1 for the 6.5 in the B4.

Which is the most aggressive setting 1 (2%) or 5 (12%):o

1 is the least agressive. I don't run any more or the front wheels spend most of their time in the air, which doesn't help steering...

Erm...minimum drive chages the point at which drive starts. I'd strongly recommend using the 1 setting as it being drive from small throttle stick movements. And avoids a great big turbo-lag with higher settings, when it all happens at once :eek:

There is no "punch" setting on the GTB, like some speeds you'll have used. Try running some throttle exp on your transmitter, and you'll find that can help a lot.

Gaz,

I've just switched to Novak but haven't managed to install my stuf yet. Can you recomend all the settings you use on yours?

Word on the street (talking to Bradders last night) his stock gearing on B4 box is 20*81 on a 6.5 so was going to start 19*78 on the X6 as I always run the 78, sound reasonable?

He couldn't remember the rest of the settings off the top of his head but he also said run minimum drive on minimum and use -25% throttle curve.

i'm hoping to get one of these in a few weeks.

is there a setting to adjust the neutral stick drag brake to simulate a brushed motor? what setting to most people use to get a normal motor feel?

Pretty much what i've been running. Out of the box settings except the minimum drive on setting 1 and a -30% throttle curve.
Very happy with it so far! :D

Yeah set the drag brakes higher giving a braking effect like a brushed motor but bear in mind this induces more heat, also if your running a one way you'll need to turn drag brakes off completely.

To activate & adjust drag brake brake:
a. PRESS & HOLD SPEED CONTROL’S SET BUTTON
With ESC at neutral, press & hold SET button until Blue & Amber status
LEDs turn on solid---Release SET button once LEDs are solid.

b. SELECT DRAG BRAKE PERCENTAGE blue & amber
Blue & Amber status LEDs (1st & 2nd LEDs on left) flash to indicate active
Drag Brake setting (Drag brake setting will be same as Minimum Brake setting).
Quick press & release to change Drag Brake/Minimum Brake setting, then
press & hold SET button for about 1 second to activate drag braking, store
selection into ESC’s memory, and return to neutral.

Setting (# of flashes): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Drag Brake (%): off 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50

I tried mine on box settings with -30% throttle curve last night and it was really really good.

I tried bonded and sinter rotors, the sintered rotors are brilliant, fell just like a brushed motor with really tremendous brakes. Most notably though the speedo and motor run MUCH cooler with the sintered rotor whilst going quicker :)

I have both a Novak and Nosram speedo.

1.Novak 6.5R and 4300 (19 turn)

2.Nosram 6.5

Can any one confirm wether these motors and speedos will work with each other.Leads appear to be the same.But dont wont to blow any any thing up till its confirmed.

Wiring and leads are the same - the GTB and Matrix will both run any of the currently available sensored motors. I wouldn't run the 6.5 motors with a SuperSport speedo though.

We have just installed a Novak system with 4.5 in our cyclone. Will be racing 4 cell at TORC and was advised to set gearing at 6.9. I think we have 75/26 around 7.03. Car seems very slooooooow.

The speed controller is at the default setting. Anybody any ideas on settings for the speed controller and gearing, (we were under the impression it was supposed to be, performance wise, similar to a 19t brushed).

CharlieS: Many different things can make something “seem slow”. Make sure the ESC is getting full throttle. The Green LED should be on solid at full throttle.

For Gearing, you may have to change the gearing, the only real way to determine if the motor is geared correctly would be through the temps of the motor at the end of the run.

For 4 cell racing we go for a “final” temp of the motor at the end of the run of around 160-170F at the hottest. Cooler then that means you can use a larger pinion, hotter then that means you are over geared and should use a smaller pinion.
