Hi
Has anyone got a good B4 grass setup. It will be my first time out with it at Brandon on Sunday and need some pointers.
Thanks

Try what cragg & Bailey run. CML website.
I have had to mod mine alot to get it to go on grass ... probably just my style though...

i run the following at Southport:
30wt oil and number 2 pistons all round, with ae silver springs all round. ( i use cut down rear silver springs on the front)
rear kickup is at 2°, with 1.5°camber on the rear and 0.5° camber on the front.
the tryes depend upon the conditions, either green/blue mini spikes on the rear, with either 4wd 2 row studs or minispikes on the front again either green/blue compound.
I run the car with rear dogbones level and adjust the front ride height to get a level chassis. Batteries are placed dead centre, ie foams in the middle of saddle packs.
It works well, but i am going to run with blue springs on the front next time to see how that goes . . . :)

at the f2's i ran:
35wt front blue springs outside on wishbones, level.
25wt rear,silver springs,outside hole.no inner spacers
1dg antisquat,long wheelbase,driveshafts level,batts forward.
1 washer under rearcamber link, same at front,1 washer antibumpsteer.
yellows on front were newish with the outside row off,new yellows on rear.
car was very balanced and easy to drive, Q7th in the A with a 5th(lucky) and 3rd in rounds

If you guys are having no probs with the standard B4 why is mine such a pig??????
Must be a tweaked car from new or something like that. Need to try a loan car to see if I need to buy a new one or if they all do what I think they do!!!!!!!!!!!
Any offers????

If ypu'd bothered to turn up at the F2's on Saturday, you could've used mine. As we'd agreed!
Are you sure it's not your thumbs that are tweeked? ;D

Nah its just your anal attention to detail just build the thing as per the instructions and try to drive it. Not analyize every little thing on the car and then try to improve it in your own demented way. If the car wasn't right it would NOT have been released

Cheers Brian.
I did try going through all the standard link positions, lots of oil piston combinations etc but the car always felt EXTREMELY loose on the back.
It feels like my B3 did before I changed chassis, rear plate, front palte ...lalalalalala and got a straight car!
Remember mine is one of the original batch with the 'iffy' chassis so it is posible might not be quite right!
Dom, you know the score about the Saturday at F2's. No transport!!! I'm affraid that is what happens when insurance companies insist you have the loom hacked about just so that the car that lives in a Fort Knox like garage doesn't go for a little drive without you!!!! Just got the Porsche standard alarm / immobiliser at the moment ..... looking at a nice shiney CAT1 this weekend.
You know what my missues is like ..... when it came down to me having 'her car' to go racing or her collecting the puppy .... well it wasn't worth me wasting my breath .. especially not b4 lunch (Not a morning person is she!!!)
Can I have it this weekend please Doom????? If my car is a bit 'Jake' then I will be asking you to order me some bits.......
Not heard back from Doug ...... has anybody?????

Pretty much what i ran at the F2's. Just went to silver front springs to get some turn in when the grass wore off the line.

rog i had my b4 in the same batch as you, infact mine was so early production that i didnt have the proline wheel with the dip for the nut, mine where like the losi rim and just said proline.
i dont think its the car rog, i think its you, i think its grate that you look into every deatail about the car to see how it works.
but if you still cant get the car to go how you drive then maybe the car is not for you?!!
have you spoke to mick or tryd driving another b4????
il be down on sunday at the f3's coz i want to race in the celeb class im shore you cant try it after racing.

yup gotta say that lee made the B4 the daddy!
i have never driven such a sweet running car since i started racing!
btw one mention lee didnt add it that we ran yellows all round for r1, r3, r4, l1,l2,l3.
we cust the outside row off the front tyres, an we had no wear on the front tyres at all after the meeting so that was good!
in round 2 the track got 'damp' for my heat (5) so we ran shu green minis just to be safe. the track started drying about 30'secs in and yet the car was still ace and i did the second fastest time of the entire day using greens in drying conditions!
my point is that the car was still fast and stable with lee's set up even when it was damp then got dry and using tyres wrong for the part of the heat.

Well,
as I said I think my car might be twisted or something. That is why I've asked for another to try.
Still got a B3 so there is always the option of going back to that.
Some other people have driven my car and they agree they it is way too loose to be consistent with.
Milzy, you must have 3/4 of a car in spares after the graphite buying fest at the begining of the season!!! Any chance of having the other plastic bits to see if I can work out what part, if any, is causing me the problems?!?!?!
The comment about the car not suiting me might be right. I mean I can't get on with the XXX either ..... maybe modern 2wd cars are too much for my old mans thumbs!!!!!!
The reason I didn't do any 2wd this year, apart from nationals, was that I dispise that car so much it was actually putting me off racing altogether!! Surely if you lot rate the car that highly it MUST be that mine is out of line in some way. If not it would at least be drivable, if not at a quick pace.... The only reason I did the nationals was that "I was there anyway".
I don't know. All I can say is that if I haven't sorted a 2wd out by next season start then I won't be doing nationals. As soon as I stop that I guess it won't be long before I'm out completly ..... I'm sure a few of you are looking forward to that!!!!!

By the way, yes Ihave spoken to Mick, at some length in fact!
I find it odd that I have been happy with Micks set ups prior to this car, B3, Pred, BC even the one for the cat (although I only played with that briefly) yet his ideas for the B4 don't work on my car.
Anybody going to be at the West Mids presentation day on Sunday???? Can I borrow a car to try please ........??!!?!?!?!?!

Roger you can run Lees car. You will need the shocks off your BC though as we have ours on the BC just now! Otherwise you are welcome to use it just bell me as we will be there late and you might wish to pick it up on the way or ask jake to collect it maybe?? I am working till 9 and as I am in charge of a machine I cant get leave due to government cut backs!

Andy,
thank you!
I have the option to run Dom's car so will be ok at the start of the meeting. Might be interesting to try both though .... maybe each and every one is different (like the XXCR seemed to be!!!!!!)
Cheers, much appreciated. Same goes for the BC Andy, I will let you run that / borrow shocks and stuff to help you get Lee running as he wants.

Right then, that was easy enough. It was the car, it was out of shape and it has been that way from day one!! Driving Dooms car soon pointed that out!!!! A full strip down and rebuild of mine revealed nothing but as I was going back to standard set-up I took off the original rear link plate and put on a spare graphite one I had in my box, no more problems!!!! Very, very odd! Well car was good all day after that, still better with in-line axles than the trailing ones .... far more positive on the front end.
Thanks Doom for the use of the car and also to Andy T for the back up option ..... much appreciated.
Bring on the winter!!!!!
P.S. Thinking about the shock tower bolts onto that plate so if it was out of line it would pull the shocks out of balance length wise ..... mmmmmmm.
