hello all,

i am contemplating getting an F103GT to run at our local indoor club (leicester mcc) and have a few questions :-

1. can the tamiya 0.4 (?) module gears be replaced with 48 or 64 dp spurs (as i have a box full of these already) ?. if so, which spurs are the best fit ?

2. what is a recommended starting set up as far as tyres/wheels go ?. i assume a harder/narrower rubber on the front and softer/wider on the rear

3. are the TRF rear damper and the aluminium motor plate worthwhile investments ? (if there are other must-haves then please let me know)

4. what spares should i be looking to carry i.e. what, if anything, has anyone broken on the car so far ?.

plus any other setup hints / tips would be appreciated. i will be running 3200 orion lipos and either the stock silver can or the black can sport tuned motor.

thanks

nick

i have put on the 3racing damper not the trf just as good , but better price , the 3racing carbon rear body mount is also a good to get as it hold the body better and locates the body post into the same holes as other tamiya cars so no more extra holes in your shell , i have the titanium rear drive shft witch you cant believe how light it is compared to the steel jobbie , as for motor the black can should be more than powerful for racing , i have the 19turn in mine and it lights up the tyres to much , settings wise the stiffer the chassis is set the less chance of spinning out you will get , or so i have heard

Hi Nick,

A little bit I've learned from mine, and from the Eurocup forum: -

1. Bring your 48/64dp spurs with you to the club. I'll bring my car and you can compare.

2. I'm beginning to er towards running foam tyres indoors. I've now managed to reduce the slide except on corner exit (more my thumbs than setup), and I believe stonecold is right in that a stiffer chassis certainly helped.

3. The TRF damper is virtually a must, as the standard kit item is a "friction" damper, with no friction! I think you can get front springs too. I understand that the ally motor mount also helps. However, I am led to believe that other hop-ups don't really do much for the performance/handling of the car.

4. Spares..... good question. I would usually say fron suspension as it looks a bit flimsy, bit as the wheels are enclosed in the body it shouldn't be too bad.

I've tried the silver can on stock gearing, as I haven't got any pinions small enough to alter it! Hoping to try Sport-Tuned once I've got my set-up sorted.
