Just went onto CML website and saw the Tub Chassis conversion, have heard about it froma few people but don't know anyone that has one.

Is it really worth forkin out £99.99 for one? Does it give that much of an advatage?

The CGM is not released yet even in japan. Was supposed to be released on 18th of december but I suppose they had a problem with the moulds.

Just so ya know, the fibre lyte one is NOT a tub chassis, its also woven graphite. You can have them costom make one for you. Its a normal chassis with the sides raised, thats all.

ummmm no its not
if you read the fibre-lyte thread you will see that it is very different
it is not a "normal"chassis with sides on it

When I looked at someone's pics of his car it looked like woven graphite. I guess I'm wrong.

Yes, it's woven graphite.

Yes, it's a tub.

Wow! It's both!

website says it is carbon fibre
but my point was it is not
a normal chassis with the sides raised
a lot of work has gone into weight distribution, stiffness, ect

Am I right or wrong?!

It is a custom laid up carbon fibre tub.
A mould has ben made and individual sheets of virgin carbon are laid over it and a resin applied.
The resulting sticky mess is cured in an autocave and then machined to produce the finished tub.
It is very labour intensive hence the seemingly high price.

I should say, just getting the cloth to sit around the cuvers and corners nicely is a feat in itself, and keep it ALL symetrical and flat too. And an autoclave isn't the cheapest thing in the world to either own or run.

I've always thought that Carbon Sheet must be flat, so yeah... I think it is an amazing feat to achieve.

How muchg they cost?

You can tell them what you want, different servo mounting, batteries moved forward/back.

It's flat in the RC Industry only because it's not possible to make a Carbo TUB in big series unless you invest a lot, i mean A LOT (and even I'm not sure it would work well, as the chassis needs 2 days of cooking and machining). So how can a RC Company produce enough carbon TUB chassis at a low price ?

Answer : they can't so they don't...

True true...

So I'm thinking the Fibre Lyte one is a bit pricey?

It's not a cheap item, true. I won't tell the price as if Andy did not, I think it's for a good reason.

It might be worth it, but I'm satisfied with my own SSG, not experienced any tweak yet (well, I don't crash that much aswell).

Hi guys,
I have been watching this topic over the last few days... If you have any questions about the chassis please post them in the Fibre-Lyte Tub Chassis thread, please don't make assumptions about the chassis and then spread them accross the world for everyone to read and take as gospel... Some of the stuff in this thread is true, but most of it is uneducated garbage.

The chassis is not just a standard chassis with sides on, it is a custom designed/made part, the weight distribution has been altered and improved over the standard SSG chassis. It is made from carbon fibre to a specific lay-up (layer on layer of carbon fibre) chosen through hours of testing and many prototypes to great expense.

It has cost us a lot of money to do this chassis, and to be honest, it kinda annoys me when people who have not even driven (or seen in some cases) say things like it's just this and it's just that. It is the best chassis conversion you can buy for the SD, it does what it claims and does it very very well.

I'm not sure if people are aware, but it is an ÆAST V1.3 chassis that currently leads the stock class of the X-Ray series in the hands of Colin Witt. My only official outing with the chassis so far has been the STCC round held at Snetterton last year, we had three cars there and 2 of them locked out the front row for both finals, and we also won both finals with ease... the chassis works, trust me ;)

Because of the rules I will not put prices on the public forum, if you would like details and prices of the chassis please feel free to e-mail me andy_east123@hotmail.com

Please guys, if you have a question about the chassis, ask me, not everyone else in the world first, it is me and only me who can answer your questions about the chassis with 100% confidence.

Cheers guys :)

It's not that much of an issue to make something like this but the technology and importantly the skills to use it correctly don't come cheap!

Andy has indeed spent a fair old sum in having these chassis produced. Trust me, at what he is asking for them it will be a while before he'll seeing a large return on his investment.

It does look well laid up and also well thought out. A 'tub' is always goingto be better than a falt sheet.

I have no connection to Andy other than that I have also thought of doing something similar in the past but been talked out of it by the bank manager!

The CGM has been released this week end in japan, so no one here have it.

I saw some pictures on RC Tech of the car being built, it does look good though I won't buy one as I prefer a more classical layout.

If you like plastic tub then I think it's the way to go.
