Well I used to get little fuss from my orbital 2 BBs when I had them, quite cheap too. But as with all modifieds, they do need skimming after a few runs, though the brushes seemed to last quite well if you were not too greedy with the gearing.

is that the pro bb - that is the modified motor i have just had - i want something different as it has given me alot of unexplained sticky brush situations!! grr.

Yeah thats the one, never had probs with sticky brushes, though if you took a clout on the endbell, that may have distorted the hoods leading to sticky brushes. Our club used them as a control motor for the summer champs over three years and we never had any issues. This year they were sold to club members and some are still being used today. LOL the one I bought drives my brush serrator!!!

I dont know what you race but i think 19t motor are more quick enough for club racing, and dont need half as much maintenance.

Depends what class of racing you do, for tourers I quite like the 19t spec class and the 27t stock class - to watch as im a hardcore off-roader.
For off-road which I guess John Rhodes is talking about, its got to be modified. But I do strongly recommend any new comers to begin with 27t or 19t to get a feel for the car for first few months.
Skate parks look fun, Ive never had the balls to put my B4 on one, doubt I will do.
As for low maintenance. I ran BRM motors last year, and although very quick I had to keep it skimmed regular. Now i am running the new Reedy PT's and geared lower as they need to rev more, but they need skimming half as much and brushes are lasting ages, even in my 4wd! impressed.
Better still are the new Orion/Peak V type motors - although I have no personal experience yet of one to confirm but meant to be the muttz nuttz. (V.Fast and low maintenance)

I also think the Reedy KR is good, I have only got one. It is an 8x2 and id expect it to need skimming every run atleast, but it seems to cope with 3 runs easily before a skim and it is a rocket. Insane, I like it that way.

Yes i am an off roader,
I took my losi xxx to a skate park - it does take nerves i tell ya cos it is bound to get damaged - insane fun though
Thanks for the advice - i dont think i have got the batteries for 8 x 2 - i liked my old 14 x 3 for speed and battery time

I don't know what winds are available in Reedy motors, I just randomly choose one. I am able to do two practice laps before the race, complete the race and go around again with a Yokomo MR4BC using a Reedy PT 12x2 and 3300GP's.
I haven't tried a PT in 2wd yet, as I have retired the B4 til the summer season approaches again.
What cells are u using?

less wat cells - more there condition
they are 3000's and 2400 - but i use the 3000 mostly
the 2400's are rubbis but as i only have two sets of 3000 i haveto use them - they only just last 5 mins s anything to nippy will not last

I think that when your motor is trying to pull more amps than your cells can give then it causes comm burn and brush wear. Id be interested in knowing more about this if anybody reading this can divulge?
I will PM you.

BRM Gold Can modified motors are about the longest lasting and. Well i wouldnt say the highest performance but they are very fast

Gold can BRM? they were just stock sell off, hence cheaper, but you'll find they're little different to the normal BRM.
All motors are good when geared right, driven well and treated ok. Lower wind = higher maintenance.
Are there any that were/are particularly bad? I remember having Trinity Kinwald motors which were relegated to the bin very quickly.
