Allowing .28 engines is in my opinion the wrong move. Unless someone can persuade me otherwise. Everyone has a .21 engine for a buggy and they can buy a truggy rolling chassis drop it in and still be competitive at meetings. Allowing things like .28 and Blown tanks just removes the fun factor and only serves to make drivers THINK they need a .28 to be competitive.

Hi there this is my first post on here so hello peeps very informative forum you have here.
I have had a Truggy for about 2 years now and am very pleased to see them really tacking off as serious race machines.
As for engine size i have tried both and don't really think a 28 gives you any advantage you get a slightly better bottom end but a loss of top end and very poor fuel economy.
I ran a GO 21 in my Hong Nor CRT last Sunday at Clanfield on a moist sometimes wet muddy track but still managed to TQ against a fair few 28/30 size motors.
Just my thoughts
Cheers
Simon.

Andy,
Don't agree with you on that. When I raced at frankley my vspec struggled with the two long straights. Gearing it to 14t helped but when I put the Axial 32 in and it made a big difference.

So you are saying a .28 is an advantage then Neil??
Either way its a problem that needs to be well thought out!
Getting existing buggy drivers to buy a rolling chassis is one thing but getting them to buy more engines might be less appealing!
Certainly the .28's had no advantage at ledbury as Lee Tqed first day with a .21 Standard Nosram engine. Where we strugged was with fuel stops as ours was bog standard and had not been blown like some of the other competitors. LOL.
I know Brennan Ralls used a .28 in the only qualifying round he managed (he was only there on the second day) at the Nova rossi GP (truggies) at EMORC Southend. He then switched to a .21 for the final and went on to win it!
My point is in the early stages you will get some extra drivers who have all the kit bar a truggie to have a dabble but if they find they HAVE to buy a bigger engine to compete they might have second thoughts.
I am sure it will be taken into account....its good to talk though :)
:D its very good to talk.. mine will get one of my .21 stuck in it..most i have asked said there was so little in it... it does need some loose rules throwing together though.. limit them to .28 and a 150 mm tank or something along those lines to even it all up.. i am looking forward to a refreshing alternative to rx, which will still be my main stay... i think but who can tell.. my racing is judged on the fun i have and the good people that i race against.. not my results..some are takeing rally x to serious these days with they money they throw at them.. even seen people use a engine a meet then sell it on.. and new tyres for each qualifying heat let alone the final.. gets to dear for us poor people.. thats why i stopped electric some years ago.. could not keep up with the new cells and moters every month.. truggies will be great i am sure..club type racing at its best.. most of us do this for fun..:D

I don't think any engine has an advantage over another and what advantage I got from the 32 I ran was lost as I had to pit more.
Personally I run the vspec as much as I can as I like how it runs but the 21 struggle with the truggys. I agree on fuel tank and we have limited that tio 150ml but with the engine its a balance, with the 21 you get fuel economy, with the bigger engines you get a slight speed advantage on bigger tracks but they basically balance out. I agree on the money side but I think a bigger issues on money is tyres over engines, looking at the 12 sets I'm lugging around with me! Alot of tuned 28's are about to hit the market so maybe something to keep an eye on but I'm not in favour of a huge amount of red tape.
Cheers,
Neil.

Just so you all know, the brca truggy class is quite open and free from loads of restrictions and rules. We want to have fun and encourage people to come regaless of there equipment.
In testing a good 28-30 engine is faster in a straight line but needs more fuel stops, also i found that it makes diffs set up very hard as the grunt just overpowers the diffs.
After trying both i think that a 21 most of the time is better. All the fast guys in the US run 21's....
