View Full Version : Can 2 speedo's feed one motor?

Just a quick question, would 2 speedo's be able to run 1 motor? obviously using the 2 speedo's to get 2x 6 cells to power the motor.

would this be possible?

Got a feeling this might be in the wrong section... sorry ::)

Not without major modification. Speedo 1 would need to be the master, speedo 2 would need its micro removed and the fet drive taken from speedo 1. That way both lots of FETs will be synchonised and it would then work.

marcus would it be possible for someone of your abilities ;D (creep creep) be able to wang loads of fets into a single speedo to accomplish the same thing?? i dont want one just curious...

why don't you buy an e-maxx novak speedo? this speedo does just what you are looking for, with reverse too. It is designed to run two motors, but you will be able to solder both power wires to one motor, I would have thought.

It would be possible, in something like a cyclone, to upgrade everything to run on 12 cells, but it would be very expensive......

just curious as im kind like that...and it is my job to ask retarded questions...

nothing secret about this one, its for the Oval racing on a Velodrome thing, they are letting insane speed run people have a few laps.

it obviously has to be some kind of LRP speedo in my car, they make some plane and boat speedo's so I might be able to get one of them wired up.

how much do you think a regluar motor would be able to to handle?

(hey I managed to get it back onto a topic for the right section ::))

LOL I would have plenty of spare ones!! With 15 volts available, I would suggest you try a stock or super stock first, even these will happliy ask over 100 amps at 15 volts. Maybe even try to shoe horn an aero motor in there!!

Doughty

would a stock (or 'milder' motor) be faster than say a 9 turn, if the stock had more batteries? rembmering the weight and everything. it does have to make the corners too (all 2 of them! ::))

The problem with a nine turn is that the current is going to be horrendous - I can't think of any speedo that will handle it without going into immediate meltdown. Even with the stock motor, its going to be a case of gently winding it up on the throttle over several laps untill you reach full speed, for fear of destroying the brushgear with so much current. But I think the stock may be ultimately faster if you can keep it on the track - lol

ha ha ha... excellent, I like the sound of this. running to destruction.

hmm maybe my insane speed run wont happen this year... but there is always next year! ;D

Thanks for the help!

Chris - all you need to know is here. It looks like a standard LRP 7.1 with heatsinks to me!!

If memory serves me right (and it may not!) Tim Walden from Schumacher ran a aero motor with more than 6 cells in his big 6 during 2001 or 2002. It may be worth getting hold of him to get an idea of how it worked.

Get a Tekin 420 Speedo... second hand with tradition components:
They are capable of handling 20 cells up to 300A! :o

Something like this:

In fact most Tekin handles 10 cells or more... wish they are still making them... :'(

wow... it is a 7.1!! I got a feeling it might be a bit 'special' though... maybe I can get one from Jurgen...

I think the oval is too tight for ~100mph though, can but try though! ;D

The LRP V7.1 ESC has been outfitted with 12 gauge wires, but is otherwise unmodified. Note the receiver pack alongside the motor; every inch of this TC3 is filled with batteries!

Seems to be standard then!!!

if you manage to tell me how to blow up a v7.1 please tell me!!! they are the most robust little sods i've ever witnessed.... mine is still going strong. and my v6. and my ipc (a black one:O)

possibly best to try and fit whatever motor (if brushed) with trinity p94 style brushes, as they've a greater surface area, and may be able to handle the currnet better? ???

I think a soft motor would be the best option, something like a 9... ::)

seriously, maybe a 15x5 or something like that.

you have a point about the bruses, but I dont think that is an option ::)

LOL for the last insane speed run at our club, I hand wound a 6 single!! It was insane, and it only lasted one run, but it was fun, oh yes!!

It looks like the endbell is slightly off the motor in that TC3(look at the bottom right pic)
