Hi guys,

The last motor i had was the D5 but i didnt know i had to get the comm cut so it is ruined now. So i need a new modified motor, that doesnt need the comm to be cut every few runs, it needs to be fast (d5 was 11x1) but it cant be over £35, please help me?

LOL that would be the holy grail of mod motors - the only one that fits most of your criteria is Mr Basil Brushless, but price might be an issue!!

All brushed motors need to be skimmed and rebrushed on a regular basis - no exceptions.

Hi Jack, If you find one please let me know and I will buy one ;D

As Marcus says the only motors that don't need skimming are the Brushless variety - but you will need over £200 for them.

Normal modified motors such as your D5 have brushes, which touch the commutator as it rotates, transferring power to it. As a consequence, the brushes and comm wear - resulting in the comm requiring a skim and new brushes to be fitted.

It's unfortunate - but thats life I'm afraid

Chris

i thought you might say that,

so what do you think i should get within my budget range, preferably as fast or fatser than my 11x1 d5?

I don't think you will, and if you are on a tight budget, have you thought of a milder motor, OK, it wont be AS quick, but it wont be that bad, and skimming and brush replacement should be less if geared right.

ok then maybe ill get a 19turn but what do you think is better:

the demon
or the new reedy quad magnet?

Orion are saying that the new Revolution motors are very easy on the comm.

Problem is they are not readily available yet
And they certainly won't be available for under 35 quid :(

Yeah, but remember, they were running on a low traction, low drag surface, and they were using softer winds than normal, so you SHOULD expect more life from the brush, but the results that they got were very impressive all the same.

Team Orion's Orbital 2 Pro BB range all come in at under £35. I think their lowest wind is 12, but that should still be plenty fast enough for you.

Why not just buy another armature?
