Are LRP, Nosram and MTroniks brushless systems sensored or sensorless?

Are they prone to things such as cogging such as the micro systems im so used to?

I know in the heavy (not far from 2.5kg) Schumacher GTRe's, we had problems with thermalling in warm conditions, but that wasn't just limited to the Novak, both Mtroniks and Nosram/LRP systems suffered.

Don't know about touring cars though, I've only used Mtroniks (without problems).

I have used both versions of the LRP sphere, with the 3-star and 4-star LRP brushless motors.

the system is sensored, and is silky smooth.

I have never detected a hint of cogging at all, even with flat batteries, it will take off from a standstill to a crawling pace perfectly smoothly, you can control it to roll forward a few mm and stop very acurately.

and the brakes work really well, you can even hold on the brakes and try and roll the car by hand and it has a dough like feeling where the speedo is controlling the speed of the rotor, hard to explain, but I was impressed with the way the brakes felt.

I have not had a single thermal issue, I have never used a fan, but in race conditions I have to use brushed motors (brushless not BRCA legal for off-road) so I have never had the chance to use it on the super hot days.

Novak is also sensored, but thats as much as I know about that system.

The LRP/Nosram, and the novak systems as someone has said are sensor.

The M troniks is sensorless. The M troniks ones have some sort of software to try and prevent cogging, but it still happens sometimes. Having said that i dont have the latest software update, so it might be better now.

For control, i believe you just cannot match a sensor brushless system compared to sensorless.

I have novak gtb's and mtroniks. Both are good in their own ways.

I tried racing with the mtronics indoors but the cogging became an issue if I ever caught the ropes used as track markers. Under normal running it's not bad at all.

I still prefer the novak in most areas as to me it's a high quality product. It also means I will be able to race at nationals or anywhere that only allows brca legal motors. The mtroniks cogs very bad if you try using a novak/reedy/nosram/lrp motor with it though.

So if you are thinking of racing at nationals I recommend a sensor capable esc.

The Mtroniks will cog occatinally due to its sensorless design. Its never caused me a problem though, its a lot better at preventing it than other sensorless ESC's.

The Novak/LRP kit as already said is sensored. And thus very smooth. Not quite the same power as sensorless, but it is "legal" which is the most important if you plan to race it.

If your trying to decide what system to purchase, one very often overlooked bit is what the customer support is like. Mtroniks is the clear winner here. The warranty is valid for longer, they're more helpful, respond quicker and are just nice to deal with.

I had soo many brushed Mtroniks ESC's set fire on me that I lost all faith in Mtroniks totally. Their brushless systems maybe really good but to quote an old saying

"You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression"

:(

But the advice is appreciated, thanks :)

I couldn't get an Mtroniks Gennesis sensorless brushless system to work satisfactorily for 2WD off road. The cogging was quite frequent, particularly when modulating the throttle in medium speed turns. It would also some times fail to pull away from stand still cleanly, so I would be sitting on the grid in the final wondering whether it was going to set off without a big hiccup.

After complaining, I returned it, they claimed there was nothing wrong with it, but to me it definetely wasn't a viable replacement for a brushed system. I could imagine the technology working in the air, where the requirement is more for constant speed.

What radio was you using with it? I've had issues before where it gets a bit confused by the radio signal, and causes stuttering. That is different from cogging. When I switched to FM it cleaned a lot of that up.

Off the line though, once in a while it will stutter for a split sec unfortuantely. If its setup right, its quite rare though.

I was using an FM KO Vantage. I'm pretty sure the rest of my electronics were sound, I compared it back to back with a Novak Cyclone speedo, which worked fine.
