Hi,
I have just cleaned all my bearings out after stripping my car. I put it all together following the manual and pushed it along the floor to test the freeness. It was AWFUL >:( I took the driveshafts out of the diff and spun them, they were very free, but when I put them back in the diff they weren't at all. I have re-built each diff properly and the bearing on them are very free. Can anyone please help me as I have no idea what it could be? ???
Cheers

well make sure u havent tightened the screws on the drive bearing cap too much. (the cap over the bearing just in front of the spur gear)
besides that check each part individually and as u build the car back up keep checking it at each stage to work out where the problem is

Hi Rob,

When you say AWEFUL, what do you mean exactly :) Was the motor meshed in?

As Nick says work through the car testing as you go to see where the problem is, sometimes the gear housings can compress the bearings slightly causing them to bind, took a scalpel to the inside of mine and shaved a tiny bit off the bearing part.

Hope that helps

on the propshaft outputs into the diff housings try oly running 1 spacer in stead of the kit 3. this will make a massive difference.

I found when rebuilding mine recently that I had to shave some of the bracing from the back of the new (white) pinions to stop them rubbing in the upper gearbox casing.

Try taking out the 'o'-ring that sits in the centre-shaft ouputs. this allows the shaft to 'float' this makes a definate difference.

i took out the O rings from mine and used a small piece of foam to allow the driveshaft to float but not vibrate at all

Of course you could, in true "brainiac" fashion, take a stick of dynamite and some CO2... ;D ;D ;D that'll free up anything!

I found that the rubber shield on the inner side of the right rear and left front diff bearing rubbed on the diffs. I removed the shield and it is sweet as a nut now.

Mine seems to free up a lot by just running it. It takes a run or 2 for it to "reseat" itself after a rebuild.

What colour diff gears you got? If they're white i'll tell you a little secret about them... they will cause MAJOUR unfreeness... Like hard to even spin the wheels.
