I attended the recent meeting and was surprised to see a wannabee road traffic attendant! I am surprised that the feeling is too encourage people getting there early to enable them to gain entry to the premises first. Surely this is WRONG. The gates open at 7:30, this means you should aim to get there at or after 7:30! I personally aim to get there after this time so as to not upset the local people. I know residents get annoyed in the road collinear with the entry lane, but surely if you encourage people to get there early then people in the perpendicular road will get just as pissed off!

I think if people thought about the consequences of what they did then a better solution could have been considered. Maybe people arriving ON TIME should get right of way? maybe this would cause people to leave at a better judged time, we all know how long our journey takes, you can blame it on traffic at 7am sunday morning.

Just my feeling but im sure its shared with many people!!

I usually aim for 7:30, but it usually ends up being nearer 8 because I'm a lazy bugger.

Kerswell is the king of late arrivals though. :D

I think you'll find the reason someone basically has to behave like a parking attendant, is to prevent people from 'cutting in' when they come to the gates and try to get past the (as you've already mentioned) unnecessary queue.
Nobody at the club is trying to encourage people to turn up before 7:30

As you've already said, the queuing is not necessary.
In the warmer weather we have the entire park to use so it shouldn't happen.
If the grass is waterlogged then someone is required, but only because people can't park sensibly.

I agree with Rob. This was a bit extreme. ok i was in the queue and i get there so i can get a good place around the edge where i like to pit. But the idea of a parking attendant there in a bright coat and everything is a bit over the top.
also like to point out that the '' parking attendant'' didnt park along side the fence like the rest of us and decided to park nearer the corner by the houses.

I mentioned, during a recent briefing, that in the run up to the recent council elections 'our' club was raised when prospective councillors were canvassing for support... One of the moot points is 'our' noisy arrival early Sunday mornings... This as you should ALL be aware is not something new and has been raised many times before... To at least appear we are actively trying to do something regarding this Debbie has 'volunteered' to 'police' the gate in an obvious manner... Hence the hi-vis jacket and rottweiler! ;)

Yes, it would be much better if everyone waited away from the gate (Long Lane would be best) and timed their 'final run' for after 07:30hrs... BUT that ain't gonna happen :( ... Not human nature is it?

steve i agree with you. but i want to ask why debbie wasnt parked along side the fence. and on the other side where we arnt instructed to park.

First of all I think the main reason for Debbie doing what she did was for the club's benefit not for the fun of it.

With the club at risk from the residents it is daft to make things worse by parking stupidly or playing loud music.

It was not as put "EXTREME" at all.

Drivers who live a fair distance away like to allow time for anything that might happen on the way (Puncture etc) you never know. (if you were going to a National 150 miles away you would not leave at a time that would get you there 5 minutes before the start of it surely)

So if Debbie "playing" traffic warden keeps us the club good for her.

To be a patrol officer, you have to be be grey haired totally retired no other commitments in case you get run over by a local resident. and a lolly pop issued by the council. You need to sign up at the age of 45 wait till your 65 to get the job.so practising now is a good start. A point to remember is that while you are holding the traffic directly in front of the gate you are holding up the residents from moving as well so this create another problem itself.

If the club sold of pitches to its members the you can arrive later and have your spot
If it does not matter where you stand on the rosturum, why does not matter where you pitch round the track.

Only open the gates if no one is there

First come first serve i say But Please Obey The Orders by Being extremely quite and by parking on the right side of the road ! Stop complaining just get there earlyer if you want to get in before every one and stop jumping the que ! people come from quite away and allow time for there journey and if they get there earlyer and have been waiting for a while i think they deserve to go in first ! Debbie is doing a good job by allowing this to happen ! get in line and be patient... Its like Saying open up the shop when there are no customers, Don't be silly !!

Don't forget, we also have the 'inverse' speed hump on the drive through the enchanted forest :D

the drive through the enchanted forest :D

Love it!

Although I'd rather drive through it than walk; wouldn't fancy myself in a fight with those stinging nettles on each side of the road!

With any hobby like ours, you'll always get the early birds. If the gate opened at 6am, there would be people waiting at 5:55am; its human nature. As said previously, I aim for 7:30 or just after, but in the 3 or so years I've been coming to WLRC, I've only got there before Steve about 3 or 4 times due to my inability to wake up and get out of bed! I've noticed myself arriving later and later with each meeting this year, although I've got a while to go before Kerswell has any chance of beating me to the track! :D

Hi Guys, I haven't answered previously because I wanted to hear what everyone had to say first, I was expecting something to be said and must admit I am little surprised at the negativity of some of the comments, especially as this was a common sense step for the club to take and I'll explian some of the reasons as we go.

There is no intention to encorouge people to get there early (as per Damians post), people always have, and probably always will do, I don't think you could ever prevent or control that no matter what you do, at least not in a sensible way (in my opinion), like many I try to allow extra time for things that could or may happen on the journey and sometimes that means I get there earlier than I intended. Others such as Nismo do so because they want to pit in a certain area, it is true that pit position dosen't really matter that much (especially now we have the new Race Board) unless we have bad weather, but as pointed out "Human Nature" plays its part and people are not always sensible.

You raise the point that if poeple considered the consequences of what they do then a better solution could have been considered.

The idea of "marshalling the gate" was considered for the very reason that some people (sadly) where not considering the consequencies of thier actions and this has lead to complaints from the local residents (re Steves post) and even from club members (although for different reasons). The club must be seen to be doing something to offer some kind of solution before the local authority does. Maybe the time will come that we will not need to consider action like this but lets just hope its because people see sense and not because the powers that be have shut us down !

steve i agree with you. but i want to ask why debbie wasnt parked along side the fence. and on the other side where we arnt instructed to park.

I parked in that position for 1 main reason, at the previous meeting I parked in the que the same as most people (about 6 cars back) and then started to marshall the gate area, Once Steve opened up I then started to wave people through but unfortunatly another member had parked so close behind me (and others close behind him) that they couldn't get out and around me and this brought everyone else to a stand still untill I ran back to move my car. I don't mind going in last so I put my car in the most unobtrusive place available at the time. This issue has been realised and a suggestion is in the pipline that offers a solution to this "apparent" breach of the rules.

You state you thought that this move was a bit Extreme, I guess only time will tell but sometimes things have to be done to put things right and if it means that WLRC can continue to operate and we can build on our progress then everybody wins, or alternitivly we could just ignore the problem and hope things put themselves right, forget the fact that despite numorous requests at drivers meetings have been ignored. Maybe "getting a bit extreme" is what is needed to remind people that the rules are there for the club & its members benifits and not just for the fun of it.

Jeff, it's amazing what a good hairdresser can cover up ! My place is booked, the Lollipop is on order but the Zimmer is out of stock !
