View Full Version : tc3 handling problems

I bought my Factory Team TC3 secondhand some little time ago. I race it at our local club on a carpet surface.
(astroturf)

Dispite striping the car down and rebuilding with many new parts I am unable to sort out a handling problem.
When turning left the rear of the car appears to step out. This is particulary noticible on hairpins and sharp bends. I am unable to put the power down as early as I would like for fear of the back end stepping out.

I run with the following setup: Blue springs to the front. Gold to the rear. A one way diff is installed.
We run using Schumacher Yellow mini pin tyres.
(a regulation at the club)

Any ideas as to how to correct my problem?

The TC3's torque steer caused AE to redesign the car to try to counter it by restricting movement one way or something (don't know the specifics exactly). Several people have had problems like this so it may be worth having a look back through this Associated Board for similar posts.

Thanks

tc3's tend to spin out on left handers??? its only a minor problem usualy, but, because you are using a one way it will magnify the problem. Try using a standard diff. One ways are more suitable for fast flowing tracks with no brackeing points. Also try replacing all the hindge pins as they can cause this kind of problem as i found out at Hpi junior nats.
Hope this helps Phil C.

Thanks to all who have replied.
I have just found that my car had a bent hinge pin on one of the front sus' arms. Fingers crossed!

I would suggest running gold springs on the rear with blue fronts will induce oversteer.....swap them round and see what happens...!!

ah yea didnt notice that. u always want stiffer front or the same never stiffer rear. Alothough i do know some1 who runs gold rear blue front at ashby an they seem to do alright.

i have also been having problems with my tc3 spinning out in corners so i decided to strip it down and see what was going rong. i found 1 cracked wishbone and 3 badly bent hinge pins. DOH!
i havent yet run the car on the track yet but i am hoping that it will handle better.
i think there are stronger hinge pins than the stock ones that can be bought somewhere?
i personally run gold springs on the front and blue on the back
it doesnt work for me the other way round.
has ne1 else found that changing the front hub carriers from the standard ones to 2 or 4 degree ones has made any improvments in handling?
thanks
nick

Yea you can get titanium hindgepins pm sent. I wouldnt suggest alloy wishbones tho as there are no droop screws and they will bend or just break the next thing in the line. (chassis :o).
