View Full Version : Racing Queries
I am thinking about coming over and giving my Lab a run out against you guys :D
Are you racing this Friday (17th) and do you race every Friday?
What time do things kick-off ?
Do you have mains power available or do I need my battery ?
Thanks
Rob

We race all Fridays unless otherwise stated and I would get there about 7 ish. You do need your own power source, table and chairs. Hope this helps :D

As Elliott says we race every week. Mains power is limited, 12v battery must be in a leak proof container.
All other rules we run to, dont panic there arnt many of them, are on our website www.ketteringmcc.co.uk Mainly just 27t motors, any rubber treaded tyre (no minipins or rallyblocks) and no tyre addative. The timing supports PT's if you dont have one handouts are also used.
I wont be there for the next couple of weeks, but have fun we are a relaxed freindly bunch and there is a good race in store whatever level youre at.
Cheers

Guys
Thanks for the responses.
When you say mains power is limited does that mean not guaranteed ? i.e. bring a bettery instead of mains power supply ?

OMG - not another Lab  :p
Rob,
there are only couple of power sockets at the venue, one is in the corridor and not ideally placed, another is used by race control and the third is up the far end of the track and not possible to get to during a race! So if you have a battery it's best to bring it.
If you get really stuck, we can provide an outlet from race control but I prefer not to, as it can get a bit congested around that area during the meeting.
I'll be running race control for the next couple of weeks in Dave's absence, so let me know if you are going to struggle.
Look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Be nice to me on Friday - just got a new shell!!! it is very pretty and not hand painted!
Colin - if you'd like a hand on the money collecting duties during signing in just let me know.
Guys
Thanks for all the info.
Unfortunately I am now on parental duties tomorrow night so not allowed to come and play :'(
I will try and get over some time in the near future though.

All
Signed up for the South-Midlands Touring Car Challenge at Bedworth & MK (only 4 rounds, 2 at each venue) but haven't raced touring cars outside. Any tips on gearing for 27T compared to running at KMCC and whether suspension should be firmed up?
Does anyone know if you can turn up at Bedworth and practise outside of club meetings?
Cheers

Bedworth and MK are a turn up any time and practise club :D . As for gearing i'm not sure as I run 19t but would guess around 6.2 - 6.8  The suspension depends on how bumpy the track is, if your tyres overheat etc so experiment :D

I didn't change my springs from indoors to racing at MK and the car went great, but I did add a bit more droop back onto the front to account for the bumpier surface.
Don't forget you'll need tyres - I've found the SSB premounted ones that Mike sells for the STCC are a pretty good "allround" combination and they are good value.

I would reccomend the cs27 unless their is a control tyre or if you are allowed tyre warmers dependant on conditions sorex 32r. Not tried the STCC ones though :D my Hot Bodies is goin quick too lol.

A good start for a monster round bedworth is 5.8 though depending on brushes etc. If you do not have warmers (like everyone last year) then CS22 for the <20degree days and sorex 32's for over that. Bedworth and MK tracks are good fun, and the meetings are pretty relaxed. Also you can run a diff, but if you want to be on the pace get a one-way for stock. Or a spool for 19 and mod. See you there. Thanks Jonathan
Are tyres warmers allowed and are tyres additives allowed / a necessity?

Hi, Warmers are allowed from April 1st (but usually if it is a club meeting it will be relaxed about that). I have not actually tried them. But everyone who uses them says they give you a definite improvement. If you do not want to buy warmers then additive is pretty good too.
Any additive except ones which contain wintergreen. So basically any additive that is sold still in the uk. Mike from Modeltech sells the SXT additive. I have not tried it, but it will probably do a good job. I you want one which a lot of people use then get LRP/Nosram asphalt additive, this seems to be what most people use when they dont want to experiment with additives for different tracks.
Dont feel that these are a neccessity. But..........additive is cheap, around £7 a bottle and lasts for ages, it is easy to use and will give you improved times at the beginning of the race. Also you may not want to buy warmers to use for just four meetings over the summer. Hope this helps. Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan - and I though carpet was complicated! Main thing I'm going for is a bit of extra racing and having a go at tarmac to see what it is like. I'm doing stock and will just stick with the diff. 5.8! - I'll have to get some bigger pinions and smaller spurs!
