Hi,

Anyone have an insight into the effect of running washers under the ballstuds on the steering bellcranks/spindles. I understand it effects the bumpsteer, but what exactly does this mean?

Thanks
Alex

Bumpsteer is the amount of change in the angle of the wheel relative to the chassis centerline as the suspension moves through its travel.
In a car with no bumpsteer, the amount of toe-in does not change regardless of the position of the suspension.

the washers are mainly used to get the same bump steer when you change things.

for example, if you change from 30* caster blocks to 25* blocks, you put a gold washer under the hub ball stud. this leaves the ball in the same place as it would have been wigth the 30* blocks

just to add to this, toe-out bump steer makes the car safer in bumpy fast corners but costs steering a bit. Typically just try and run no bump steer, or if you have to try and make it mild toe out bump steer.
