I no you have probably been asked this loads of time, but i am goin into 1/12 and hope to race at mk after crimbo.
So i was wondering, what car should i get, i need it to be easy to set up, competive and prices to be quite low. I have most electronics except the servo, aparently you need a mini, if so, what one is good.
Thanks
P.S Why do clubs only allow odurless additives.

associated, corally, calandra and trinity are the main top dogs. i cant make the decision for you, if i did every car would be purple! lol. take a look at each car in turn, see what you like. then see what everyone at your club is running and consider spares backup, advice on setup etc etc.

for a servo, look at the futaba s9602, sanwa 141, or KO, the last two are slightly more expensive, and MANY TOP drivers use the futaba. they are all very good.

odouless adative.... not all clubs ONLY allow this adative, some have gone fully odourless like c.a.r.s. and some allow anything (like wbmcc).

clubs that run 12th scale will be more inclined to run odourless ONLY as its now a 12th section rule at BRCA nationals.

Hi Martin,
12th racing is the best you can get!!!

You will find info on the merits of different 12th cars on other threads in this section, but it boils down to this:
Trinity are hard to set up and the parts can be difficult to get hold of
Associated are good and the parts are a bit easier to get
Corally are the easiest cars to set up and have by dar the best customer support in this country, and you can buy different versions of the car to suit your needs - check out the Corally UK site.
(No doubt there will be people who will argue some of the above)
There are some very helpful racers at Milton Keynes who I'm sure would help you out with any problems.

The servos to use are Sanwa 141, Futaba 9602 or KO (917 - I think).
My opinion is that the Futaba is the best value (around £50)

AS for the odourless additive, it makes the environment much better for the racer, the smelly stuff used to give lots of people bad headaches - it's the only sensible choice really.

Hope this helps.

I KNEW someone would beat me to it - must type faster ;D

quick question dave, how much you selling it for, and, at mk do you race stock, modified or both?
Is there any chance of tryin to find a tyre combo for the oudoor track, or will you never race out there.

hey guys

the RC12L3 is a good car and goes well with not alt doing to it. If you buy it second hand then make sure the rear ael is in on piece and has not been broken but no dought dave will be no problem.

oh and matt we at WBMCC only use odourless (well the stuff that eather has no smell like the LRP or has a nice smell like the TQ stuff but no winter green) Just being picky lol. See you on 30th nov

TQ is not considdered odourless. There are only 3 that are: Orion, LRP, Corally TC2.

Back to the question. I run a Corally and as far as i can make out parts are easiest to come by, and my set-up changes have been Very Minimal. In fact the only thing i actually change is rear damper goop, and that tends to only be changed when it needs filling!!!!

Martin,

Not sure on the price yet as I haven't worked out what I'm including! It will be (as a minimum)

Corally GIII chassis
3 sets of tyres (i.e.12)
6 cell stock configuration
includes hand wound BRM 27T motor (no longer legit for BRCA but legit at club)
Steering servo
40Mhz Protech Receiver
Some spares / tools

All you would need is an esc and batteries

As to running outdoors, as soon as we find tyres that work, we will run outdoors. So far we have drawn a blank...

Hi All

Just merged these two very similar threads hope nobody minds.

To answer a question from Martin.

Generally speaking addativies are prefered, as although it is possible to make 1/12's go quite nicely thank you without addatives you can then end up in a bit of a tyre war, as once you get up to ultimate performance (e.g with addatives we can get to the point of grip roll) then without addatives the tyres are really soft and wear really quick.

Now any second we'll get some comments re non addative racing being fine, grip ok etc etc but at National level it would create the above currently(IMHO), if however we can get to the required level of grip (given well set up cars etc, before the flak starts) then perhaps it will one day get re-addressed.

At this point - short pause while tin hat and flak jacket firmly affixed...

Re odourless, this is perhaps the best move we have done for years, as without the horrible smell addatives are much much less of a problem, however I strongly recommend anybody thinking of mixing them with other types (as per wbmcc above ?) check the addative or National info thread as that's really not a good idea.

As for the best car, that's dead easy, it's mine !

As there's no other reason why this old fart's going so quick these days...

roll on Mold

Jim

p.s Dave, nice to see you about, get well soon and hope to see you at Mold.

We run 1/12th circuit at high wycombe without additive. If you put UFRA Se mediums on the back, and corally silvers (or golds for more steering) on the front, the cars are almost as good as they are with additive. I reckon, you'd hardly be any quicker with additive around our track. However, if I didn't use additive when I went to bigger meetings, I don't think the car would handle as well, particularly on large tracks. There's that little bit extra with additive; the car feels like its on rails!

how much does the additive cost then, and how do you use them.
Apparently you put them on with a brush, or spray them on about 30 min befor a race, is this true.
Also as you lot seem to use them quite a bit, (lookin at other thread) how much do you get in a bottle.

Mark Stiles

Yep, brush/spray on 30-45 mins before race. Wipe off 10 mins before race with rag, then go racing. You get about 100ml in a bottle, and its about £8 a bottle.

Martin, can I suggest that you visit your local club - MKRCTC on Sunday, and chat with the guys that will be there with their 1/12th scale cars. I know they will only too gladly help you with all your questions.

They are needed, it's a bit like driving on ice without them. I'm sure Dave will fill you in on the best ways of applying them (to many different views to go in to them all here)

Hi

I am looking at getting a 1/12 car second hand probably and as cheap as possible. I intend to be running it at chippenham and just playing with it at my local club. I know what cars are available, but to be honest they all seem preety similar. Associated tires are more expenisve can you use other tires on it or do you have to use theres. Any advice on a good beginers car would be nice

Mark Stiles
08-12-2003, 08:53 PM
Associateds are good cars (I would say that because I run one!) Along with the corally, it is the most popular car in the uk, mainly due to parts availability. You can use any foam tyres on any of the cars, so long as the wheels fit your car. If you buy wheels and tyres separately, and glue/true them yourself you can use whatever you want. I use calandra wheels with corally tyres on mine (because corally tires are half the price!)
