What is the common opinion about the optimum tyre to use at West London? I am running the new Yokomo if that makes a difference.

Either Take-Off CS Range (CS-22/CS-27) or Sorex Range (20-R/24-R/28-R).

Thats what most people run.

another quick point; do people find themselves running the Take Off 22's, or 27's more often? I'm kinda on a budget so can only get one type probably!

Depends on the season. In the current climate, people tend to be using 27's, although winter it's back to 22s. Also, 27's are a little bit harder so will last longer, whereas 22's are too soft for the summer weather (mostly!) so overheat giving less grip and wearing quickly (I speak with experience!)

cheers thats a big help. Has anyone tried the new ING tyres there? I'm wondering about trying them as well.

Hi friends. Greetings from Malta.

The done thing these days seems to be to run moulded inserts in either Sorex, Pits, Take Off, whatever.

Whoever you talk to will tell you that foam inserts are like the plague. They make tyres overheat, become inconsistant, handle badly, etc. etc.

Now two years ago we were at the KO Gp at WLRC. The choice then was the same as it is now, both as far as tyres were concerned, and inserts. There was the same choice of tyres except for Sorex. They were not in UK yet. It was also the same in terms of inserts. You could run moulded inserts or foams, yet everybody opted for the softest foam insert possible - the standard Pits issue, and D25 Pits tyres, even in such hot temperatures. We ran that set up too and Josh was perfectly happy with the car, and his results proved it.

So why the sudden change of heart to moulded inserts may I ask.

The point is that where we race - Malta - we have found a Sorex S28, Pits D30 or Take Off 22 or 27 to work best with the Schumacher Competition Grey insert (U6700C), which is a foam insert. We have tried various moulded inserts.

So what really does work best at West London.

The reason I ask is that we hope to do this year's KO Gp, and as we will be vastly overweight we would like to bring just the bare essentials with us.

If anybody can shed some light I'll buy them a beer.

Thanks and regards

Joe from sunny Malta.

I find the Schumacher Black Foam (6699 I think) works well fir me, ,either that or the standard CS insert (Blue-M)

I have a set of sorex 24r - do they work well this time of year as i also am on a tight budget and can only afford one set of tyres?

They will overheat very quickly, they are designed to work at low ish track temperatures

CHRIS K. Greetings from Malta.

What sort of additive works best these days at West London?

Also, KO GP falls on same Sunday as Hungarian GP. Know of anyone with a telly close by?

Regards

Joe from sunny Malta........actually not so sunny. I was down at the track playing this afternoon when it suddenly starfted to pour. Now I'm back at the shop discharging my cells.

If I were going to bring just one insert for West London it would be the Yokomo 38m. Not always the best, but always close. Foam inserts aren't great in modified, they fall over too much mid-corner.

Trinity Tyre Tweak seems to give by far the best grip with the take-off tyres.

Playing about with wheels, 26mm, 24mm, soft, hard also makesa difference.

Any update on tyres and additive use. Im coming over from Australia to race at the BRCA Nationals round. Want to bring the bare minimum and expect to use Take Off 22 with standard insert. Will eb buying traction lotion over there. It will be interesting not using tyre warmers seeing that they are banned!

By the time of the national, conditions should be cool enough for 22s, std inserts should be more or less about right. Some wet weather tyres might not be a bad idea either.

If you are trying to keep your packing to a minimum then you could always purchase your rubber needs here in the UK. Check UK shop websites for a price comparison.

Thanks Steve for the reply. I work in a hobby shop and tyres here are pretty cheap here. I will no doubt have to buy stuff in England anyhow.

Any luck with Schumacher yellow insert? I tried it the other day just very quickly. Fills out the tyre a bit more than the standard Take Off insert. It felt really good but in my experience a fuller tyre is slower. Better to use in summer when its warmer

Neither of my sons have used Schumacher inserts so can not comment on their performance.
