So,

Has anybody here came up with anything they do their V12 to get it much faster with the different stuff than the kit supplies... Apart from any electrics and radio gear what "hopups" have people tendered to put onto it to make it a) lighter, b) faster c) handle better......

I know some people use body bosts on the front. I agree with that one its soooo much easier to get the shell off this way and it stopsd the dodgy mounting plates coming off.

look forward to your replies,

rich orton

Im not sure if this is what you mean, but i have turned a v12 into a 3 wheeler. It handles suprisingly well! i will post some pictures soon

apart from:
washers under the front of front wishbones to promote a degree of castor, upside down front wishbones to lower it, a washer under the front ball joint of the rear suspension to give it some anti-squat, ballraces on the rear axle, titanium turnbuckles on the front, and a centrally mounted battery with rear-facing steering servo, and all the electrics on the chassis, mine is standard. ;D ;)

I quite fancy building a modified V12, is there any limit to what you can do to race? i am doing it more as fun and maybe something to race during the week or weekends locally as High Wycombe is where I work, they have a popular club from what I can see

if you intend to to a competiton, then yes, there are rules and regulations, but these mostly centre around tyres/motors and number of batteries.

where I race at bury though, the normal club rules basically allow anything. we have had 12 doubles in them before now. you cant drive them though!

We used to run V-Dubs down in south Wales, we got bored, so had open rules, and I just so hapenned to have an old Kawada 1/12th scale knocking about. The rear wheels were too wide, so I cut a pair down to fit. I tell you what, it didn't half look good going around the track mind.

I would race that format ANY DAY!!

Hello, I race at high wycombe. On saturdays, we basically run to BRCA rules, although I think the rules are slightly more relaxed that on a tuesday or thursday club night. Go to www.hwmsc.co.uk for more info

cool, thanks for the info.

I was planning to build a Losi xxx-D12 (xxx Doughty 1/12th) just as a bit of fun, would I be allowed to run that if I didn't count for any points and/or not run the finals?

when I raced a V12 a while back it was ace with spec motors etc, just for fun we had them down the street with a 9x1 in it, you could spin it from mid-range punch alone!

it is the best fun you can have indoors these cars are!!

BTW - would there be any plan to have an 'open' class? rules are, it has to be this wide and have a wheel base no longer than X, it must also run the following bodies X Y Z. using spec motors/4cell

that would be cool

Edited for missed 'not'

Send snails pace a message, as he runs the saturday night meetings.

no mark i think you will find that you run the hotrods on the saturday nite now!!.. the rules were modified to allow short wheel base and diffs and a few other bits and bobs BUT they stil have to be 4 cell and still had to use the mabuchi motor but if you want to run big tyres and diffs and stuff saturday nite is the place to be.

tuesday nites we run to brca rules (not to the letter currently but come the new year we will run them spot on!!)

Chrislong

Diffs? what are the diffs? on the Mardave wheels or is it a 1/12th pancar axle?

Im running a graphite chassis on my V12, little lighter but a lot stiffer so I won't keep bending them. Looks great too.

Basically, my setup is as per Chrisburgess.. cheers for the tips Chris. ;D

But no springs on the front suspension. Handles on rails - even with a stock in.

anytime, mohammed. just ask ;)

Thanks for reminding me lewis. Even though the rules allow it, I've only ever seen 1 person use a diff. It was from an associated 1/12th circuit car. For next year, I plan to change the rules to make it more like a 4-cell saloon stox class (ie a scratch built class, but with no diffs. Hot-rods and minis can be used, but all scratch built cars must have a 1 piece chassis. Motors to be as per BRCA rules for mini/hot-rod.).

Mr Long,

If roy calver manages to organise a challenge against your lot, we should run to BRCA rules. Makes it fairer!

lewist

ah!! interesting nobby! that thing that brian lee made with the diff and stuff handled a bit odd though didn't it!?

should be interesting to see...

whats this about a challenge then??

Mark Stiles

just put 2 and 2 together lewis.

I'm talking to someone from a different club about a potential challenge meeting.

So what does that mean sherlock?

burgie
19-11-2003, 12:43 PM
Oh yes, BRCA rules, if we have a challenge, it must be fair. . . . .

Doughty

an idea for the challenge meetings would be to have the 'away' club lay the track at the host venue, would maybe make it less of an advantage to the host clubs racers

mark Fuller

if i ws to put a 19turn in one would it be to fast to control

Mark Stiles
19-11-2003, 04:47 PM
Okay on 4 cells, a bit rapid on 6 though! I find I can do more laps on a twisty circuit with a 4 cell car, than I can with a six cell one with the same motor.

Michaella, Have a word with Aaron Thornton when you next see him as I think quite a few of us from Haywards Heath might be up for it. Also did you know a new V12 only club has started up in Hastings. Its already got over 50 members

I mentioned to Dave Cartmell at Jubilee Arena about this challenge and he said "Im already on it fella" (in those exact words), so told him who to talk to and presume he's found you by now?

If he hasn't, can you PM me your phone numbers and I will pass them on to him?

I have got to warn you though, we've got some major talent racing V12's now at Jubilee..

Oh, I think we are running to BRCA rules except for speedcontrols is that ok? My graphite chassis isn't any advantage, I haven't gone any faster - its just cosmetic!

Cheers guys!
Chris

Hold on a minute! This was roys idea, and he has put the initial plans into place. Surely the h/w leg should be run/organised by him?! :P

You can buy a carbon chassis. Looks really cool but costs more than half price of kit.

my mardave v12 has a mabutch rs540 motor Dakspeed 3300 nmh worlds cells and a speed master v50 runs like a rocket and it is 100% BRCA Legal had it out on the HRCC carpet circuit and beat my friends Tc3 by 3 laps. PM me with a picture !

Mark Stiles

We race hot-rods on a circuit at high wycombe. A top of the 'a' final lap score is typically 31. Top of the 'a' in 27T tc is usually a low to mid 30's score, so for the money a hot-rod isn't bad!
