Hi folks.

I got a Kyosho Pureten Alpha 3 for Xmas but can't get it to start and wonder if you could help me out.

I am an absolute beginner to all of this so please bear with me.

It started once and it ran for around 30 seconds then cut out. When I tried to restart it the pull cord was seized so I removed the glow plug which freed up the cord.

My Glo Starter is fully charged and the plug glows when tested but not to the end of the coil. Could this be the problem?

The throttle and needle valves are adjusted per the instuctions and I follow the instuctions for starting but no luck.

Any help greatly appreciated.

John

hi, i too am a beginner who started at xmas. All i can do is talk about my experiences. i found the main problem i was having with starting was ensuring the engine was fully primed with fuel, it seemed to me that either taking pipe off exhaust that leads to top of fuel tank and blowing down it til you see fuel reach engine works well, similarly so did covering air intake on carb. i can get mine running ok now, but its still not reliable. i seem to have the idle far too high to keep it running, and it seems to run a bit lumpy with the revs going up and down sometimes. i only have an idle screw and a main needle jet on my acme cyclone, any tips gratefully received. Also will the temp be higher when its just left idling coz mine has got up to about 115c.

Hi, i am relativly new, started afew weeks before xmas. I have a T-Maxx and have never had any starting or running problems. Whenever it wont start i generaly prime the engine by putting my finger of the exhaust. this forces the air pumped by the engine up round the pressure pipes into the top of the tank which forces the fuel into the carb. as soon as it reaches the carb, i take my finger off and it usualy starts up fine. If not, try a differnt glow plug. in my experiences over the past few weeks whever it wont start at all, a glowplug change usualy sorts things out. just because its glowing dosnt mean its glowing enough....

Sometimes with Kyosho motors you have to lean out the mixture for a short period just to get it running the you need to richen again.
Try turning the main needle jet clockwise about quartet or half a turn to see if it starts easier, once started run with wheels off the ground for about a minute then richen (anticlock) a little at a time until it feels right.

Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortunately none of this worked so I took it to my local model shop who looked at it for me. Took them an hour to work out that the vents on the cylinder lining were not lined up to the exhaust opening and was therefore impossible for it to fire. I asked why it could therefore have started once for me and they said if the cylinder head was loose at all when started it was possible for the lining to turn.

So I'm now a happy chappy and can play with my xmas present but a bit annoyed that it cost me £25 for the model shop to get it going (would have cost me the same in petrol to take it to the place it was purchased from to be done under warranty).

One point of note for newbie's like me to Kyosho is that, although they do not deal with Kyosho Motors, my local shop said the build quality is known to be not the best and that after using it for the first time that I should check everything was tight. So after the first couple of tanks of fuel, which it was driven fairly gently on, I checked the screws and was disappointed when every screw on the chassis underside tightened by 1/4 - 1/2 turn each. I am now worried that some of the screws which aren't accessible without stripping the car down will fall out causing more problems.

Cheers again for the advice.

Pleased you got it all running again... although very worrying about the engine trouble and something iv never come across with a new engine!! certainly i would be calling the shop where I purchased.

As for the Hobbyshop... one of my major frustrations is that if they dont stock your kit they will take any opportunity to put down that manufacturer. Kyosho make fine models and most of the top kits are time and time again world champion winners so your car is from good stock.

Dont worry about bolts being loose especially in a new kit... with it being nitro there is alot of vibration and so its worth going over reguarly.

Best of luck with the hobby....

Whatever you do, dont use superglue or CA gel or threadlock or anything to hold them in. Ive tried it, all it does is hold the screw in so tigt that it strips when you try to take it out which means you have to cut it out and replace the part it was attached to.
