Hi everyone, newbie to 1:10 I.C racing here and just looking for some hints and tips to get me started.
I'm going to be investing in a HPI RS4 Evo3 RTR in the new year and I intend to enter a few BRCA and HPI Challange events, but I would like to get an idea of a basic set-up, a starting point if you will for setting the car up for different tracks.
Any help from any of you fellow I.C racers would be much appreciated as I say, I am an I.C racing rookie.
Thanks, Moxey77

read all the posts in this and nitro natter and most of your questions may be answered, take a look at the R40 as the one your looking at is not th popular one for HPI challenge or BRCA natioanls

It's all a question of budget really Mark. I haven't got a big budget so I need to be selective about what I buy. The Evo 3 RTR is the most likely purchase, although I may be able to stretch to an 18SS kit (with the GT40 shell).

Obviously I want to be competitive and go "pot hunting" but I need to think about my level of I.C racing experience as well.

As an I.C rookie, it's no good me buying the biggest, fastest I.C touring car in the paddock and running at the back of the grid because of my lack of I.C racing experience.

have a look in the 10th ic section
www.brca.org
and check out the rules, to be brca legal you need to look at having a .12 engine though most clubs will let you run any engine.
also pop to your local track and take a look at what is popular, i take it you want to stick with hpi for the challenge.

belive me though once you get the bug you will soon want better car/ engine.
the other thing you ned to think about is set ups, you may be on your own which may hold you back

you could allways look for a good second hand r40, though i aprecite your on a bugjet

I guess for the oppertunity, I can give the HPI Challange a miss and just concentrate my efforts and buget on a few meetings in the BRCA Scale Rubber Championship.
ModelsportUK seem to have a good limited time offer at the mo. The Schumacher R12 with a free Rossi Pixy .12 for £199. But I haven't got the buget for that just yet. Hopefully it will still be on in the new year so I can take advantage of it.

Noted, thanks for that.
My thinking now, is to get the RS4 Evo 3 RTR and just do some of the Challange meetings and a few clubbies, leaving the BRCA until I get more experience.
At that point, would I be able to swap the T15 engine the RS4 Evo 3 comes with, for a .12 engine to be able to run at BRCA meetings? If this is possible, it would save me a heap on getting a new chassis AND engine when I already have a good useable chassis.

yup that is sensible , but you will find at the rubber nationals a friendly atmosphere and a fun weekend/day depending on which you stay for

where is your local track?

Not sure where my nearest track is to be honest Mark.
I've PM'd Doomanic at Worcester MCC and asked if they have any I.C classes, otherwise, it's prolly gonna be somewhere in/around Birmingham.
The HPI Challange seems to be a very competitive bunch of peeps so that'll do me, but if I can't find somewhere local to go and do some practice and learn about the car and setting it up.
I won't be using the bodyshell that the car comes with, I've got a very sexy metallic blue Viper GTS-R that would be nice to see whizzing around somewhere like Halifax or Tibshelf. They look like nice tracks to attack.

www.brca.org and look at clubs for your nearest

Done, looks like my nearest is Cotswold MCC in Gloucestershire.
Not all too far, and they run a 'Pull Start' class ideal for RTR cars, so I think I'll be going in for that next season as well as selected Challange meetings in 'Nitro Stock'.

the cotswold crew are a good lot, they will help you out, have an awsome track and facilities and will be holding some nationals next year. if you dont race em go watch em
