I wish to race the car and eventually maybe win the occassional race.

Then get a TA04 of some version. I have the SS for short suspension which gives it better turning and handling on tight tracks but only 2 body shells that fit it :(. The TA04-S is the normal stock car and the TA04-R is the racing version with all the goodies. The 414M2 is based on the TA04 and that is a very nice kit also ;D. Those are the best for stock racing and modded classes would be the TB EVO 3 car but expect to pay alot for one. There is a TA04-TRF which if you got the cash, get it while it is hot. ;D

i used to race the 04, great starter car, but if you plan to race for a long time invest in the evo 3 if you want the best tamiya car. once you get to grips with it its everything. no hopping up really needed. for stock and for modified definetly

Tarnjit please, I've told you time and time again...the best Tamiya chassis is the TRF 414M2/WCR...LOL ;)

Hi I'm just starting out in racing and would like to know how well the TA04-R fairs against the EVO 3, is there a noticable diffence between the two chassis in performance and is there more set up flexability with the EVO 3 against the TA04-R?

If you just starting out racing then go for the TA04R, you won't notice a great deal of difference until you become more experienced. The major difference being the drivetrain, many believe the evo III's (shaft) to be more efficient than belt (TA04R) but personally I prefer belt. Also the battery layout is different which means that the evo III will have a lower C of G. If you have the money and are serious about racing then by all means buy the evo III, but the TA04R will do you fine. :)

the o4R is an exellent bit of kit. will make a really good starting chassis

Oh I forgot to mention before, that the TA04R will probably be easier to setup, more robust and easier to obtain spare parts for. ::)

Go for the EVO 3 (prefrably the surkarn ed.) instead of the 414. The 414 has probably reached the end of its lifecycle, the WCR being the last version. The EVO also has a few more setup up options so you can really dial it in. Plus the EVO has lots of good race results, and all the the team drivers use it. It also follows current trends in modern touring car design, whereas the 414 is a little old school with its 2 belts. The 414 could still mix it at the top, just the evo is a newer car.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Regarding the TA04-R is it worth investing in the following Hop-ups later on once I've got used to setting the car up?

Racing Hub Carrier set (53458)
Universal Shaft Set (53438)
Light Weight Diff Joint (53480)

Thanks in advance

yes they would definately be worth investing in. Also, I'm not entirelt sure about the 04R but if it doesn't come with low friction belts, buy them asap.

No worries ;D also you may want to get the TA04 on-road hard spring set (well two of them) to give you more options.

I am gonna say don't get any hop ups on the car until you practice alot. Practice is the best hop up out there. If you cannot drive the course, what good is the 300 quid EVO 3 gonna do you?

yep he brings his shop to the ff so he will attend all of them if i remember he attended all but only ran about 3 last year but there are a few people from his neck of the woods who ran mod last year who werent there at the last ff and they are pretty quick could get lively in mod .. ;D
personally i think im better of in stock although i do like the odd 19 turn ;D

Oh right yeah, I had forgotten about the shop. Its annoying club meets have changed to mondays, as its difficult for me with college work etc. that way I would be able to get more practice.

You should try to get down to the next all day event at Over and bring some ppl from Risby, its on the 23rd November and is stock motor only. Should be good fun. what do you think?
