Hi, I was just wondering when the entry forms for this years event will be released, and will there be any other changes for this years comp. other than the venue.

Cheers

Hi,

There is a committee meeting scheduled for next week to discuss the Thrashnal series. This will include all aspects of the championship. Entry forms should be available shortly afterwards once things are confirmed.

I can't say anything official yet as it hasn't been formally decided but I would expect to see several changes in this years series.

Andy it's been a month since your last post about the entry forms. The website is looking good but still no entry forms.

With approx 7 weeks to round one when can we expect them to be available?

Ironic timing! :D

I received the finished entry forms via email about 30 mins ago, they will be up on the site shortly once I have checked them over.

A lot of our members would like to race in this championship but many do not have personal transponders. Will you have handouts available?

As in previous years, I believe the Bristol club will be providing some handouts for the championship.

Any insight into tyre and additive selections would be great.

Not sure whether to go for 22s or 27s or what additive to get.

Any ideas?

Andy M
14-09-2005, 11:37 AM
James,

An additive list is available in the event documents section of the website.

Tyre wise, I am intending on taking a set of CS22's and CS27's to each round to use the 22's to start with and then move onto the 27's if the grip comes up too much. I found on Tuesday even with only 3 rounds of 7 heats my car was a little too grippy by the end.

Andy

jrc2005
15-09-2005, 03:33 PM
And what about inserts? Are the preglued CS22's on dish wheels worth getting? They come with medium inserts. Sorry for the questions, as i havent run rubber tyres for sometime - there are so many options.

Andy M
15-09-2005, 03:39 PM
James,

I'll be running pre-glued on dish wheels. The CS med inserts are fine for most applications. Although inserts and wheels are not "controlled" I doubt people will run much else but we'll have to wait and see.

I think the official recommendation for the series from the club will be pre-glued.

I've sent of a entry form basically when the entry form went up on the website, with a SAE. I'm just wondering if you've posted them back yet as i have not recieved one yet?

Andy M
15-09-2005, 06:57 PM
Not sure exactly when it'll be but I know Stephen was processing the entries this week sometime or this weekend. We are also hoping to get a pre-book list up on the website once it is complete so you can check your entry has been received.

Andy

Jamie Nesbit
15-09-2005, 09:32 PM
Andy, did you have to enclose a SAE with the entry form and fee's?

Andy M
15-09-2005, 09:36 PM
No, its optional so they can send it back to confirm entry.

mcFabbers
15-09-2005, 09:50 PM
Have been working through the entry forms and will get a list of drivers on the web site ASAP. So far we have 44 in 27Turn and 18 in 19Turn. I know of at least another 12 people who have recently emailed me, so if you know anybody else who wants to race then please let me know. I will be working through last years list to see who we have not heard from.

Confirmations will be sent next weekend once i have a bulk of the entry forms. No SAE is necessary.

Tyres - as a club we would recommend the glued pre built CS22 or CS27 - saves messing around with wheels and inserts and from the club night sessions they work fine.

Yes please - all rounds must be pre-entered and pre-paid. Post dated cheques are fine, dated 1 week before the event.

Is there any mains power supply on site or will i need to bring a 12v with me cheers Jeff

mcFabbers
19-09-2005, 08:40 PM
There are a number of mains sockets available and we are planning to plug some multi-blocks into them, the competitors can then plug in them. Any mains leads maybe subject to inspection and should be covered by a valid PAT certificate (just in case). Mains leads across the floor need to be fixed down to minimise the trip hazard.
However, I suggest you bring your 12V and leave in the car just in case we have any issues with the mains supply. Please ensure that you have the 12V in a contained to prevent any spillage from getting onto the floor.

Trust this answers your question.

 Hi. I sent my cheque and forms for round one quite a number of weeks ago. I did not receive any form of confirmation that it was received and I cannot find anywhere on the website/forum a list of those entered so far. Is there one available? How do I find out that whoever cashed my cheque was the right person!

On another note. Does anybody have any advice for setting up an Xray 04 on carpet. never been near carpet racing before, so this is all a bit new.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Just an update to say that all the drivers who have entered have places. There has been a bit of a rush during this week, plus a few changes, and I have been busy on something else, so I am in catch up mode.

11 heats. we will run 5 rounds plus finals.

I will publish the heats tomorrow.

I've looked on the heat listings and my sons crystal is 895. We don't have that crystal but the ones we do have are 695, 725, 775 and 875. Please can you change it please from 895 to one of those crystals. My sons name is Charles Godwin who is car 5 in Heat 4, if you can't change it I'll come to race control tommorow morning. One other thing is you said that we are doing 5 qualifyings plus finals. On the entry form it says 4 qualifyings and 1 final. Is there a mistake on the entry form or was it decide after the form was posted on the internet?

Thanks DDGG :D

I thought todays meeting went extremely well, carpet was super grippy (first time i have really ever seen cars actually grip roll  ), lots of space and it felt very relaxed and to me the meeting felt very well run :) . One thing i think in the drivers breifing thing MC, is that you should make clear that if a car is faster than another in qualifying, that person should let the other car through. Even if you are not being lapped eg you started off 2nd and you come up behind C1 very quickly you should be let through, well that's opinion and my only input into how the meeting should be run as it run extremely well anyway :) .

22's are too grippy.....Not the outcome i was expecting

I wasted £6 on additive as well, thats what - 3 breakfast rolls.

I was impressed with the new venue, the staff seemed a lot more interested than the olimpiad.

i like to say well done to steve and hit team they did a good job today(well done allof u ) sorry i dont know all your name and the day was a good day ,had a lot of fun and did not have a v,good racing day but as we say there is all way next time :), would say the only constructive comments would be. the mike where we was u could not hear it at all so you did not know what was going on :'( we were siting at the back of the hall, and the sound on the rostrum u could not hear it at all :( i think this will help the fast cars get past as then the drivers will hear them that all i like to add
but i will say this this was the fist time i have raced on carpet and them tyre rules and was not looking forword to it ,i was use to the last 2 years and a lot of grip and did not see how these tyre and that carpet would work ,well wow how worng was i :'( i use old tyre's from the outdoor this year, and i had so much grip i love to bring some home for the next time i go raceing where the dont have any lol

Hi.

I though the event was well run. Some problems with reverberation on the PA system, which will need sorting.
I thought the spectator seating could be utalised as a rostrum. If you took the tiered seating and turned it around so you walked up them like steps, not only would you be much higher but also have the restraint bar at the top that would act as a barrier. It is only a thought and may not be practical!

Never having raced on carpet. I have to admit at being caught out big time! [still a lot was learnt]. I was amazed at the high standard of driving and maybe for a complete novice it is nearly a step too far. However, we are going to have a further go, see how we get on.

Good crowd, good organisation and from what I seen a good venue.

Yet another well run meeting, i'd lke to say thanks to Stephen Fabray for sorting out the problem with my laps not being counted!!!, I think the venue is alot better with a much easier access... the new carpet was really good, alot of grip with using the new tyres, did shock me a little that as i though i'd be driving a boat all day... (well most thought i was!!!!! ), hopefully do better in the next round!, can't wait, see you all in a fortnight :)

Thanks for the kind words. It is encouraging to know that the decision for a number of changes appears to have paid off.

Glad everyone enjoyed the refreshments, it was good to have drinks on hand in the hall and cooked food upstairs.

PA - we will be making some changes next round adding more speakers on the rostrum. Also changing the main pit area to improve on the sound quality.

Rostrum - looking at a couple of options to raise the height - will keep you informed.

Running 5 rounds and finals was good, and thanks to all the drivers for making it happen.

Leighton - no problem with the laps - others may be interested to know that mounting a transponder very near the new KO receiver can cause problems - there are other postings in other areas of the rcracechat forum supporting this.

Results - will be on the web later.

Next round 23rd october - entries close on Saturday 15th. There are currently 104 people booked in so we have some spare spaces at present.

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Had not bad day today, qualified 3rd in the B and finished 3rd (should have finished 2nd or maybe 1st but grip roll and a crash on the last lap didn't help :'( ), but the bad point of my day was breaking my Xray shock absorber and using a TC3/4 shock (it felt ok ;) ). To me the meeting was well run and relaxed but why the rule 'if you don't get to the line with in this 'beep' you will have to start over there', why not just let those people who were late start last. It didn't really effect me but just curious. See you next round  :D :)

Racing was good yesterday (track extremely fast :D ), still had problems with people not getting out the way in qualifying when they should know they're being lapped (come on the computer tells you!!), other than that little grumble it (to me) ran like clock work. See you lot in 2006

Many thanks for the various comments. Glad people enjoyed it. Difficult to believe that we are now half way through!
Next meeting is on Jan 8th - please ensure you get your paid entry in by the end of this year. Very keen to ensure that we get as much racing as possible. It is a shame that yesterday with the no-shows we could have run 5 rounds.
We will be giving priority to those that can complete 5 championship rounds now. We will also aim to accomodate as many new racers as possible using up any of the 'spare' spaces we have. We usually find a few drivers 'drop off' towards the tail end of the Championship. However, please remeber that all competitors who race in 5 or more rounds in a given class receive awards. Additionally we have prizes from CML Distribution and Microtech to give away.

Hello all,
Great to see all the positive feedback, the track was both liked and disliked, but thats what we want, "a good mix". We had the main straight 4 metres wide as it was on the far side, normally its just over 3, worked well though. Gaz is doing the design for the next meeting with the straight in same place and a hairpin bend coming towards you infront of the rostrum, should be good. I myself didn't like the track, but then my car never goes in a straight line which didn't help with this track. Real good to see some drivers making the A finals that aren't chucking loads of money at it, unlike me as I chuck loads of money at it and still cant make the A.
Anyway the feedback is great and the more we get the more we will stretch that carpet to get the bumps out.
Finally a massive thanks to Steve and Richard who spent an evening drilling and putting up hooks to put banners on. Also a big thanks to Colin Anne and Andy for all they do, The Championship is better than ever and its mainly down to these people.

Merry Xmas
Joe D.

Good day, Qualified pole in the B but got T-boned on the 1st left hander of the 1st lap, game over, moved the motor. In the 1st round I had to much steering so I cured this with a stiffer role bar. In rounds 2,3 and 4 the car was great but then in round 5 and the last bit of the final that I got back out for I had lost alot of bite out of the steering that I had earlier, Any ideas? is this tyres goin off or maybe grip on the track coming up and hooking the back of the car up more. I can get the bite back with adjustment but I am confused to why I lost it in the first place, when I had made no changes. My lap times dropped by nearly half a second. Anyway my bad final was made up for by the immense battle between Russ and Keith in their Final a joy to watch, I lost count of the amount of times I saw Russ's car on two wheels about to grip roll and he saved it every time. See you all in two weeks. Come on gaz im sure you can manage one more track layout for us , the last one was awsome.

Keep an eye on ebay then Lee, Mark might turn up at the next meeting wanting some more cells if he gets bob to cell them on ebay. Would also like to see my pinion back again from him

I would trade all the comments about how fast/good my car look on the track for the tenth of a second a lap i need to make the A. The number of times i have qualified and finished at the sharp end of the B is getting annoying. Thinking maybe my car is too soft and that i am just driving it to the limit of the car and not beyond, which is why it looks dialed.

A good day for me. Day started pretty nasty as I hadn’t raced since round 3 of the thrashnals (20th Nov) and so felt very rusty. It wasn‘t until the final qualifying session that I felt like I knew what I was doing and put in my best time of the day which was good for 7th in the B (27t). Final was good also, the usual pile up on the first bend (nothing to do with me!) mean’t I moved up to 5th and with two other racers crashing further into the race, I finished on the podium! In 3rd.

Lessons learn’t. Don’t have such a long break from RC racing.

Roll on round 6.

Any body got any idea of how many heats there will be this weekend and how many qualifying rounds we will have?

There are a total of 10 heats, hence with a 8:45 race start it is possible to run 6 rounds of heats plus finals. However, if any delays are encountered then we will have to pull it back to 5 rounds.

The heat listing has had a number of changes during the week but I will email it out either later today or first thing Saturday.

The hall usually opens around 7:30 ish, and we will perform the drivers briefing at 8:30. the drivers briefing will be held in front of the rostrum to ensure that everyone knows what is going on and what is expected of them. Comments have been made in relation to marshalling and driving standards hence we need to ensure everyone pays attention to what is being said.
Notwithstanding this I am sure it will be another day of enjoyable racing.

Look forward to seeing you all again on Sunday.

Yet another superb event run by Fabbers and his crew. Loved the track but due to its technical nature there were limited overtaking oportunities. I think this was the reason for the odd moments of carnage. Great day though, cant wait for the next one.

Not too keen on the track myself but it very good to such a variation this year on track design. Lets hope Garry can do another track that everyone will like for the final round.
Besides that I was very pleased with the results as it is still wide open for the last round in 27 turn.

Thanks for the various comments. Comments on the track design are generally position dependant (unless its a really 'bad' design) - we will be sorting one out for the last round, probably have a full length main straight.
Results and Championship positions will be available very shortly.

I will use this as a reminder to ensure all drivers get their paid entry to me by next Saturday (11th Feb) at the latest - booking in by telepathy is not acceptable!! I will be sending reminders out later in the week.

Round 7 results are now online, championship table has been drawn up but we're having some file type issues we are trying to resolve. Hopefully we will have this up by the end of the week.

Andy M

Quick update. File issues have been resolved and championship standings are now available for download at the usual address.

Please note these tables may contain errors due to the round counting etc.. as it is relatively hard to work out and sort. Please don't panic about any errors until the final round when it will all be sorted.

Another great days racing. The track was a bit technical but I still enjoyed it. It would be nice if somebody would stop drilling me. On the subject of the next track, it would be nice to have a full length main straight for the last round. I might be able to stretch the legs on the old Tamiya then.
As usual, superb organising by Fabbers and his team. This has to be the best winter series yet. Bring on the next round. :D

This it for me as I can't make the last round. The way I've been driving it's just as well. Anyway, can we have clarification of the old timers championship age cutoff. 40 is stated in the rules but 45 has been mentioned.

Thanks,

Dont worry, I will pick up your Trophy if its has changed to 45. And to prove there would be no sour grapes, I promise I wont stamp on it. :p

Yes, Steve does!!

I'm not sure which layout is to be used, although there has been mention of a layout encompasing a full length straight. I will ask the question tonight and see what I can turn up.

Enjoy the meeting this weekend, hope to see some of you through the summer

Thanks John, will be running a very sheep friendly car...you just never know.

Also, I spoke to Steve last night about the layout, he has got something in mind for this weekend and may get it up for you to see before the weekend.
I cannot tell you anymore than that...sorry, other things were going on and never got the time to find out any more for you.

All the best for those taking part, hope you all have an enjoyable days racing. Oh, and win a nice prize at the trophy presentation afterwards!

What a superb finale to a fantastic winter series. Loved the track with the full main straight. Brilliant prizes by CML and Microtech and not forgetting the faultless organisation from Fabbers and his crew.
This has to be one of the best winter championships in the country. I will certainly be back at the end of year. Well done to all those that made this series one of the best.

Just a quick note to apologise for an expected delay of the final round results and championship table.

Unfortunately I had my main file's hard disk fail on me this weekend. While I have not lost anything too important, it is taking me some time to get my system back together and my backups restored alongside work and other commitments.

I'll try and get the latest info on the site by mid week if I can.
