People are using from 13 turn motors down to 9-turn motors,if you can only afford one i persanlly would buy a 12turn,because lower motors will effect run time's if your like me-heavy on the throttle.

Also for 12th most people prefer torque more than a high rev motor. If you know Glyn Ward, who is at most Nationals-its worth taking to him,has his motors are good for 12th's because they are effeciant (easy on the Batts) for me he suggested a 12x1,A lot of the top lads use 10-9turn last year were Jim spenser was using a 13x2 of Glyn ,& could easly keep up with the A-class pace...If you need Glyn Wards Phone nember etc let me know & i will PM it to you,He also has a web site,i also use Corally motors they have two ranges silver-(tourque) Gold-(high rev)-Go for the Silver range - :)

i like the infinty ones (ti based) because the ti is a good 12th motor, and infinity can wind it and tune it for a 12th, which makes it very fast with a power band well suited to 12th, but also nice and efficient. I like the 12x2 ones.

I currently use a team orion core 12x2.It's fine for the job, but I'd get a BRM (glyn ward) if I had £55 all over again! :)

I'm on a 12x1 Krypton at the moment. I have used the 12x1 Ti and 12x2 Krypton but found that they seem to lack a bit in tourque (although they did seem a little smoother.....)

We race on a very small and tight track so touque and acceleration is more useful that out-right top speed, but I have tried the 21x1 Krypton on a bigger track and with a couple of extra teeth on the pinion it went very well indeed.

I found my Reedy PT a bit to smooth at times-but was better when i increased the timming a little..perhaps thats the result of having 4 magnets?

Eric, I wouldn't sweat too much over motor choice for 4-cell. I use an Orion Pro BB modified of dubious vintage (12x3) that has already served a term in the HPI series in a TC. I also have a Reedy Machine Wound modified (£30) fitted with BBs (12x2). Both are easily on the straightline pace, and good out of the turns.

I'd avoid the odd winds (x1, x3, etc.) if, like me, you are inclined to let the speed fall a bit low in the turns - doubles and quads have a bit more punch.

Getting the brushes right is key. Glyn Ward (BRM) does the right one's for the job, just call and ask and he'll despatch. Make sure the motor is rebuilt well (it'll last ages in 4-cell, takes about 8 runs to take the serrations off the brushes!!) and keep it clean. A drop of oil on the bearings every meeting.

I agree with Steven about the wind too, keep 12 as a minimum if you are not A Final material so as to make the time easily.

The last point to note is that battery voltage is also key - get good batts with good voltage. Again BRM do GP3300 for a good price and they are excellent. HTH. :)

motors are not important as most would have you believe.

mark barford proved that last year... just drive it! ;D
